Tour of American Chestnut Restoration Project at Lake Mohegan

On Thursday, Fairfield's Conservation Director, Brian Carey,  lead a tour of the stands of American chestnut trees gifted and planted by members of the Fairfield Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of America, and Fairfield Public Works in 2012. The tour which included an inspection of the trees Fairfield Garden Club members, including current Club president Barbara Geddes Wooten, and Dr. Sandra Anagnostakis who's retired from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station's Department of Plant Pathology and Ecology. #Fairfield CT--State Representative Brenda Kupchick (R-132) united with Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara at a news conference on Wednesday afternoon to remind residents about Fairfield’s ongoing “Heat Kills: If you Love ‘em Don’t Leave ‘em” initiative. First started in 2015, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of leaving children & pets in hot cars. Rep. Kupchick also shared the legislature’s passage of a transportation bill that extends “Good Samaritan” law protections to people who break into hot cars to save animals. Originally, this legal protection only existed in the case of entering a car to save a child. Southport News: Firefighter Injured Fighting A Garage Fire

Fire Department Update:  FAIRFIELD, CT, 6/29/2018: On Thursday evening at 6:38 PM the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a structure fire at 1300 Mill Hill Road. Engines 1, 3, 4, 5, Ladder 2, Rescue 1, and Car 3 responded. Engine 4 arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from a large detached garage. Units used multiple hand lines to aggressively battle this fire. Incident Commander, Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood, stated that the homeowners were very lucky the fire was discovered in the early stages by a delivery person or the damage could have been much worse. One firefighter suffered serious facial injuries and was transported to the hospital by American Medical Response. His injuries were not life-threatening. The…
