11:59am–#Fairfield Connecticut– A faulty dehumidifier is suspected as the cause of this smokey basement fire at Lockwood Road.  All occupants safely made it out of the house.

8:46pm–#Fairfield Connecticut–If you were sleepwalking on Barrister Lane you’d think you were counting sheep.  About 20 sheep got loose from their pen in the 4400 block of Black Rock Turnpike.  Police and animal control them back to their home when I arrived.  A special thanks to Madison, Cara, and Amanda for sending me their Snapchat videos and to Sheryl “Petmom” for the heads up on the call.  After the last couple of weeks of tragic videos this was fun to put together.  I saved all the puns for you our viewer to add in the comments!

7:18pm–#Fairfield Connecticut– Police have on male in custody for allegedly stealing condoms and chewing gum at the Stop and Shop on Villa Avenue.

4:42pm–#Fairfield Connecticut– The principal at St. Thomas School at 1719 Post Road called police that she was watching kids in the school, they entered from the back door.  When police arrived the youths were gone.   At 4:53pm police received a call of youths on top of Osborne Hill School at 760 Stillson Road.  The schools are three miles apart from each other.

Sen. Tony Hwang has been recognized as the 2016 Co-Legislator of the Year by the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut.

The award recognizes Sen. Hwang’s efforts in helping craft legislation which provides wage replacement benefits to all of Connecticut’s firefighters diagnosed with cancer.

The award will be presented on Sept. 6 during a ceremony in New Britain.

“I’m honored to receive this recognition of our bipartisan legislative efforts within the General Assembly,” Sen. Hwang said. “This is a groundbreaking proposal which protects the men and women who protect us. We are helping all Connecticut firefighters who are diagnosed with job-related cancers, and in collaboration with municipal leaders we are doing so without adding new financial burdens on cities, towns, and local property taxpayers.”

Sen. Hwang, the ranking Republican senator on the Labor and Public Employees Committee, was part of a firefighter working group which consisted of Republican and Democrat legislators, the Connecticut Council of Municipalities, the Council of Small Towns, municipal leaders and the firefighters union.

Throughout the legislative session, Sen. Hwang co-sponsored “An Act Establishing A Firefighters Cancer Relief Program” Public Act 16-10, which establishes a relief fund used for wage replacement of those who are diagnosed with certain conditions of cancer as a result of their service as paid municipal or volunteer firefighters.

In addition to providing wage benefits, this bill also requires firefighters to take preventative measures to avoid contracting cancer. Eligibility for the relief fund requires firefighters to maintain a healthy lifestyle and undergo regular pre-screening for cancer.

“This legislation is the product of many hours of productive discussions on how to tackle a public policy problem,” Sen. Hwang said. “Our talks brought together different viewpoints from major stakeholders in order to bring about common sense solutions. With this new law, we have accomplished that goal. For everyone working on this important legislation, one mutual goal existed: we were working together to fight cancer and support our firefighters and their families.”

12:00pm–#cttraffic–#Fairfield Connecticut– An officer attempted to pull over a car with mis-used plates, more than likely stolen.  The car refused to stop and got on I-95 northbound.  Police told me the pursuit continued because it was slow to mid range speed an the operator even used their directional signal when making turns and changing lanes along the way.  The pursuit ended between exits 35 and 36.  Additional units from other towns as well as state police joined the pursuit.   Two are in custody, one of the suspects has an extensive criminal background according to radio reports.

 

12:00pm–#cttraffic–#Fairfield Connecticut–Un oficial trató de parar un auto con placas probablemente robada. El auto no se detenio y se metió hacia I-95 norte. La policía me dijieron que la búsqueda continuó porque manejaba muy lento y cambiando señal direccional. El acidente te entre las salidas 35 y 36. La policía estatal y otra unidades de otras cuidades ayudaron. Dos están en custodia, uno de los sospechosos tiene un extenso pasado criminal de acuerdo con informes de radio.
