FAIRFIELD, CT/September 12, 2016 – Parents looking for enriching after-school programs for their children—and even themselves!—can enroll in one of four options this fall at the Fairfield Museum and History Center. The Lion’s Studio Art Enrichment (ages 7-9): Mondays, 4 – 5:30pm on November 14, 21, 28, and December 5. Join Cassie Walker of “The Lion’s Studio” to encourage, develop, and challenge your child’s ability and curiosity in the world of art. Discover and discuss the works of the masters of contemporary art and influential icons in the design industry and apply their techniques, ideas and styles to a curated mix of beautiful projects! Members: $90; Non-Members: $110.

 

Watercolor Painting En Plein Air with Judith Orseck Katz (ages 15+ and adults): Tuesdays, 3:30– 6pm onOctober 4 & 11. Local artist and teacher Judith Oreck Katz, author of the beautiful POND, will lead this art and painting workshop in the beautiful surroundings of the Fairfield Museum, including the Burr Homestead Gardens. Learn about Judith’s techniques which she utilized in her book, including pen and ink, washes and watercolor. Explore the natural scenery to create your own artwork inspired by the environment. Materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies, as well. Members: $45; Non-Members: $60 per person.

 

Miss Annie’s Museum Munchkins (ages 4-6): Wednesdays, 4 – 5:30pm, Session 1 is October 5– 26. Join Miss Annie of Great Beginnings Montessori School to celebrate diverse holidays and to explore the history of our town. Sessions will include reading about our theme, creating a unique craft and viewing some of the Museum’s fascinating exhibits. Learn to appreciate each other, your family, your community and the world at large! Members: $90; Non-Members: $110.

 

History By Hand (ages 8-13): Tuesdays, 4:30 – 6:30pm, November 15, 22, 29, December 6, 13 & 20. Director of Education Christine Jewell invites creative kids to learn art, design, and sewing. Learning basic skills, techniques, vocabulary and safety, students discover their own talents making unique sewing and collage projects inspired by history, including decoupage, patchwork pillows, cute animals and colorful block quilting. Students will also have time to choose their own projects and inspirations! Members: $90; Non-members: $115. In addition, there is a $25 supply fee.

Fairfield News: House Fire

4:19pm–#Fairfield Connecticut– There were no injuries and no one at home at this house fire on Longfellow Avenue. When the call came over the scanner I knew it was close. I ran to the scene with my camera, set it up and ran to the house with another person who kicked in the door. I yelled fire in the front as he ran to the back, we were relieved no one was inside. I then directed traffic to get the cars off the road so that firefighters could get their trucks to the scene.

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bisson said it appears the fire had started on the back deck. Fire spread up to the side of the building to the second floor. They still do not know the cause of the blaze and the fire marshal was on scene to investigate the cause. There were no reported injuries.

4:19pm–#Fairfield Connecticut- No hubo heridos y nadie en casa en este incendio en Longfellow Avenue. Cuando llegó la llamada sobre el escáner sabía que estaba cerca. Corrí a la escena con mi cámara, y con otra persona que le dio una patada a la puerta. Grité fuego en el frente mientras corría hacia atrás, nos sentimos aliviados que no había nadie adentro. Dirigimos el tráfico para cuando los bomberos  llegaran a le escena.

Asistente jefe de bomberos Scott Bisson dijo que parece que el fuego se había iniciado atras de la casa. El fuego se extendió hasta el lado del edificio hasta el segundo piso. Ellos todavía no saben la causa del incendio y el jefe de bomberos estuvo en la escena para investigar la causa. no se reportaron heridos.

Fairfield News: Missing Senior Citizen

11:11am–#Fairfield Connecticut– Police are looking for a gray Honda Fit with CT plates 277PRD with a missing 88 year old woman with dementia.  If you see this car please call police, do not approach her as she can become agitated.

Fairfield News: Catamaran Water Rescue

5:44pm–#Fairfield Connecticut– Firefighters and marine units were called for a water rescue of a catamaran that had its mast break off.  A sailboat came to its rescue and began towing it back in as marine rescue units arrived.  The Fairfield marine unit assisted with the tow and lecture on the importance of personal flotation device use.

Fairfield News: Two Motorcycles Down

1:11pm–#Fairfield Connecticut–#Bridgeport CT–Two motorcycles have crashed on Park Avenue near Thorme/Shirley Place have crashed.  This is in the motorcade of  9/11 CT United Ride.   One biker is reported to have a broken arm.  Now a report of 3 bikes down at Capital Avenue.
