On Sunday, March 22, 2020, Trumbull police arrested a Milford man on an outstanding warrant for stealing a gold necklace worth almost $12,000 from a jewelry store at the Westfield Trumbull Mall in September 2019. Brandon McLaughlin, age 25, of New Haven Avenue, Milford was posing as a potential costumer at Kay Jewelers, where he asked an employee to look at a 24 inch 10kt gold rope chain. As soon as the employee took the chain out of the display case McLaughlin grabbed it from their hands and ran off. No one was injured during the incident. Multiple 911 calls said the driver was entrapped which was not the case and the car was on fire. Firefighters report the driver out but the pole is sheared at the base. Expect delays in the area. Trumbull police are warning residents to be aware of scams related to the recent health crisis occurring worldwide. There have been several unverified reports throughout the country of people posing as personnel from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and going door-to-door, allegedly conducting a coronavirus (COVID- 19) survey or investigation. The Trumbull Police Department would like to make it known that the CDC is not conducting any such survey or investigation. Residents should not grant anyone access into their residence whom they do not know, or who were not previously scheduled to be there.
