Trumbull News: Fatal Crash

Trumbull Police are now on the scene of a two-car motor vehicle crash on White Plains Road (Route 127) in Trumbull. The crash involves serious injuries and the roadway in this area will be closed for several hours. White Plains Road will be closed between Reservoir Avenue and Brock Street until further notice.

The Trumbull Police received several 911 calls, on Sunday, October 10, at approximately 3:30 PM, reporting a two-car motor vehicle accident on White Plains Road (Route 127) near the entrance ramp to Route 25 Southbound. A convertible and a sedan collided causing heavy damage to both vehicles with the convertible coming to rest on its side. The only occupant of the sedan and one passenger of the convertible were transported to area hospitals, however the other occupant of the convertible sustained fatal injuries. First responding Trumbull police officers rendered medical aid to the victims and secured the scene. Trumbull EMS and Nelson Ambulance also arrived on the scene to treat and eventually transport the two (2) victims to area hospitals. Trumbull Center Fire Department also arrived on the scene to assist and secure the scene. The Trumbull and Fairfield Police Department’s Traffic Divisions are currently investigating this incident. The cause of the accident and cause of death have not been determined at this time. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Trumbull News: JUVENILES ARRESTED AFTER THEFT AND ATTEMPT TO STEAL CAR


On Sunday, August 6, 2023, Trumbull Police apprehended three juveniles who had fled from law enforcement after breaking into a car and attempting to steal it at the Trumbull Mall. They had managed to escape with items taken from the vehicle. The arrested individuals included two thirteen-year-olds and one twelve-year-old male, all residents of Bridgeport. These individuals faced charges related to the incident.

Around 6:30 p.m., the Trumbull Police received a report about four individuals wearing black hoodies and masks who had just stolen a purse and Air Jordan shoes from a Hyundai Elantra. The suspects had broken into the car. Responding officers swiftly located and detained one thirteen-year-old and the twelve-year-old suspect in the mall parking lot. However, these juveniles resisted the police’s efforts to control and apprehend them physically.

An eyewitness initially observed a juvenile fleeing from the Hyundai, carrying the stolen sneakers and several other items from the car. While the suspects were making their escape with the stolen items, the car’s owner approached her vehicle and noticed that the rear window had been shattered. She found her purse and Air Jordan shoes missing, and also discovered that the car’s steering column had been tampered with. Consequently, she contacted the police.

The two apprehended juveniles were positively identified as the culprits and were later taken to Trumbull Police Headquarters. Here, they underwent the criminal processing procedure and were slated for release to their respective guardians.

Upon releasing the thirteen-year-old to his father, officers noticed another juvenile accompanying him who was wearing an ankle monitor. This second juvenile attempted to change his appearance by altering his clothes before arriving at the police department to pick up his friends. However, the officers quickly deduced that this third juvenile was the individual who had smashed the Hyundai’s window, tried to steal the car, and pilfered items from inside the vehicle before fleeing. Subsequently, this juvenile was arrested, identified, and confirmed to be thirteen years old as well.

While some of the stolen items were eventually recovered, the whereabouts of the shoes remain unknown, and the fourth suspect remains at large.

One thirteen-year-old and a twelve-year-old were each charged with Interfering with Police, Conspiracy to Commit Motor Vehicle Larceny, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Mischief, and Conspiracy to Commit Third-Degree Larceny. They were released to their relatives with a Promise to Appear in Bridgeport Juvenile Court on August 14, 2023. Police were informed that the twelve-year-old is presently on probation for auto theft.

The thirteen-year-old who arrived later at Trumbull Police Headquarters faced charges of Interfering with Police, Attempted Motor Vehicle Larceny, First-Degree Criminal Mischief, and Third-Degree Larceny. He was released to his mother’s custody with a Promise to Appear in Bridgeport Juvenile Court on August 14, 2023.

BURGLARY AND LARCENY SPREE ENDS IN ARRESTS AND RECOVERY STOLEN CAR AT TRUMBULL MALL

Trumbull Police apprehended two (2) men and one juvenile male after they broke into vehicles, shoplifted, and attempted to flee police from a stolen car they were entering at the Trumbull Mall, on Thursday, July 27th. Edgardo Mercado, age 21, John Adorno, age 19, and a sixteen (16) year old male, all from Meriden, were arrested and charged for their involvement in these crimes.

At approximately 12:30 PM, Trumbull officers were notified that a stolen white 2014 Kia Sorento was on mall property. The vehicle had been reported stolen to the Bristol Police Department, on Wednesday, July 26 after the vehicle’s key was stolen from a locker at the Bristol Planet Fitness, leading to the theft of the vehicle. This Kia also matched the description of a suspect vehicle that was involved in breaking into other vehicles in Trumbull.

Officers located this Kia unoccupied in the mall parking lot, and later apprehended Mercado as he was entering the driver’s door of the stolen Kia with shopping bags of merchandise and the vehicle’s key in his hand. As the other suspects were entering the Kia and saw the police apprehend Mercado, they ran back into the mall with Trumbull officers chasing after them on foot. Adorno was eventually located and apprehended inside a women’s fitting room in Macy’s and the juvenile male was apprehended in the food court area.

Trumbull Officers had previously been detailed to investigate vehicle break-ins at the Planet Fitness and Edge Fitness locations in Trumbull where purses had been stolen. A witness observed the white Kia SUV pull into the one gym parking lot where a male exited and threw an object through the window of another vehicle. A male then entered and stole a purse from inside this vehicle before returning to the white Kia and fleeing the area.

Credit cards stolen from the car break-ins were used by these suspects to make approximately $2000 worth of fraudulent purchases at the mall, and they also shoplifted numerous items as well. Officers recovered the used stolen credit cards from Mercado’s possession. Police also recovered merchandise purchased with these stolen credit cards along with other items stolen from the mall. Mercado initially provided a false name to police, but officers later confirmed his identity. The remaining suspects avoided capture and remain at large.

The sixteen (16) year old male was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 2nd degree, Larceny 4th degree, Larceny 5th degree, Burglary 3rd degree (2 counts), and Credit Card Theft. He was eventually released to the custody of his mother on a Promise to Appear in Middletown Juvenile Court on August 4, 2023.

Adorno was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 2nd degree, Larceny 4th degree, Larceny 5th degree, Burglary 3rd degree (2 counts), and Credit Card Theft. He was held on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on August 8, 2023.

Mercado who has previous convictions of unlawfully taking other vehicles and was also found to have five (5) outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was charged with Larceny 2nd degree, Larceny 4th degree, Larceny 5th degree, Forgery 3rd degree 4 counts), Burglary 3rd degree (2 counts), Interfering with Police, and Credit Card Theft. He was held a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on August 8, 2023.

SECOND JUVENILE ARRESTED FOR GUNSHOT AT TRUMBULL MALL

#Trumbull police arrested the primary suspect involved in the shooting incident that took place at the Trumbull mall on May, 29, 2023. This sixteen (16) year old male resident of Bridgeport turned himself in to Trumbull Police Headquarters on Wednesday, July 6 for the outstanding warrant of his arrest.

He was criminally processed and charged with Reckless Endangerment First Degree, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, Threatening First Degree, and Breach of Peace. He was then turned over to the custody of the Juvenile Residential Center Superintendent at Bridgeport to be held, and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Juvenile Court on July 12, 2023.

Trumbull police detectives thoroughly investigated this incident, collected various types of evidence, and interviewed witnesses which all lead to the identification of this primary shooting suspect. The Trumbull police, with the assistance of the Bridgeport police, additionally executed a search warrant on this juvenile suspect’s residence where additional pieces of crucial evidence were recovered linking him to the shooting and lead to the issuance of the warrant for his arrest

TRUMBULL OFFICERS NAB THREE TEENS WHO LEFT STOLEN CAR WHILE SHOPPING

#Trumbull CT– Three (3) teens were charged Monday afternoon when they left a stolen vehicle at the Trumbull Mall while they went shopping. Officers located and arrested the teens near the bus stop and recovered tools and USB cords that are commonly used to commit car thefts. Okief Braham, age 18, of Hartford, a seventeen (17) year old juvenile female of Stamford, and a fifteen (15) year old juvenile male of Hartford were all arrested for their involvement in this incident.

On May 22, 2023, an observant Trumbull Police officer who was patrolling the mall parking lot spotted an unoccupied vehicle which had a broken window and the engine still running. Upon closer inspection, the Kia Optima was found to have a broken ignition with a USB cord inserted, which indicated that it was stolen. Officers verified the vehicle had been stolen earlier the same day in Stamford. Officers began searching the area for the teens who had been observed leaving the vehicle just minutes earlier.

When located a short time later exiting the mall, officers detained the teens near the bus stop. The juvenile female became aggressive with the officers and had to be restrained. She was found to be carrying a variety of tools used for car thefts, specifically for Kia and Hyundai. When further investigation connected the teens to the stolen car, all three (3) were arrested and transported to Trumbull Police headquarters. The fifteen (15) year old juvenile male was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. He was released to custody of his mother on a Promise to Appear in Hartford Juvenile Court on June 5, 2023.

The seventeen (17) year old juvenile female was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, and Interfering with an Officer. She was released to custody of her mother on a Promise to Appear in Stamford Juvenile Court on June 5, 2023. Braham was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on May 30, 2023
