Bridgeport News: Crash! All Hands Working!

2023-06-30@11:08pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Tonight there was a crash that shut down Fairfield Avenue at Holland Avenue (in front of the new Starbucks). Assistant Chief Andrew Ellis oversaw the extrication that took about an hour to help the driver out of the SUV. The driver was wedged tightly against a truck that appeared to be parked. The dashboard also pinned the driver. I always marvel at how the firefighters worked in synch to free the driver. Not many words are spoken, they all know what needs to be done. Bridgeport Police Investigate Stabbing

At 8:16 PM, the Bridgeport Emergency Communications Center (ECC) was alerted to a possible stabbing near Madison Avenue and Beers Street. Bridgeport Police Department (BPD) and American Medical Response (AMR) were dispatched to the scene. While en route, the ECC received notification that a person with a stab wound to the abdomen had entered the emergency room (ER) of St. Vincent's Medical Center via a private vehicle. ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG URGES EPA TO FINALIZE PROPOSED PFAS DRINKING WATER STANDARDS

(Hartford, CT) -- Attorney General William Tong, as part of a 17-state coalition filed comments to the U.S. Environmental Protect Agency (EPA) supporting the agency’s proposal to set enforceable drinking water standards for six per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances—more commonly known as PFAS or “forever” chemicals. “PFAS forever chemicals are a threat to human health, and I fully support EPA’s efforts to set enforceable drinking water standards. These proposed regulations will go a long way towards ensuring the safety of our drinking water, but they must be accompanied by robust funding and support for public water system upgrades. Arrest made in TD Bank Robbery

On 06/02/2023 the Shelton Police Department arrested 46-year-old Bernadette Diana Volikas for the bank robbery that occurred at TD Bank on 05/04/2023. Volikas was quickly identified as a suspect as Stratford Police Department investigated a similar robbery, which occurred in their town in February. Officers from Shelton and Stratford Police Department responded to Volika's residence located in Milford. Officers made contact with Volikas, who was taken into custody on the arrest warrant held by Stratford Police Department. Volikas who has been incarcerated since the arrest on 05/04/2023 was served on the Shelton arrest warrant on 06/02/2023 charging her with Robbery 1 st degree Degree and Larceny 4th Degree.
