The City of Bridgeport to Begin Black Rock Streetscape Project

The City of Bridgeport has set out to begin the first parts of construction in the Black Rock area, known as the Black Rock Streetscape Project. The project will focus on improvements to two sections of Fairfield Ave which consists of the intersection of Fairfield Ave and Brewster Street and median improvements at the entry from the Town of Fairfield. “While it is great to see this project finally moving forward – many years after former State Rep. Westport News: Radioactive Incident

2023-09-18@8:30pm--#Westport CT-- A Fairfield assistant chief was returning from a call on I-95 when alarms went off in his vehicle alerting him to levels of radiation. He isolated it to a Ryder Truck and was able to get the truck to park at Sherwood Island State Park. Department of Energy & Environmental Protection Agents were called to the park along with state police. After a short period of time, they found the radiation with acceptable levels. The truck was carrying medical supplies which may have caused the activation. The truck is being cited for a number of violations including improper placard of hazardous materials.

Bridgeport Homicides 19&20

On September 12, 2023, at approximately 2:45 am Bridgeport Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation within the 100 block of Carleton Avenue. ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system. Once gunshots are fired in an area covered by this service, police receive a notification within one minute directing them to the location of the gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive 21-year-old Ansonia man lying face down in the street in front of 30 Carleton Avenue. The victim appeared to be suffering from a critical gunshot wound(s). Medics arrived and pronounced the man deceased at the scene. Bridgeport News: Pedestrian Serious Condition-Driver Flees

Bridgeport Police said in a statement: "At 23:19hrs the Bridgeport ECC received a 911 call reporting a pedestrian struck in the 400th block of Hollister Avenue. On-scene Bridgeport Police reports indicated the victim sustained lacerations and scrapes to her head and bruising on her chest.
