#Westport Town Clerk Patricia Strauss announced today that absentee ballots for the Democratic and Republican Presidential Preference Primaries, to be held April 26, are available at the Town Clerk's office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, April 5. Registered electors who are enrolled in a major party may qualify for the following reasons: - Active service in the armed forces of the United States; - Illness or physical disability; - Religious tenets, which forbid secular activity on the day of the election; - Duties as an election official at the polling place other than their own during all of the - Absence from the town during all of the hours of voting. Westport Police Department Swears in New Officer, Promotes One

#Westport Connecticut--On Monday, March 28, 2016 the Westport Police Department welcomed one new officer to the organization and promoted another to the rank of Detective, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Detective William Harsche. The ceremony took place in the Westport Police Department classroom, where First Selectman Jim Marpe administered the oath of office. Officer Sharon Russo was promoted to the rank of Detective. Detective Russo is an 8-year veteran of the police force, joining the department in March 2008 where she has been assigned to the patrol division. Detective Russo attended Marymount Manhattan College and has earned the Westport Police Investigator’s Award. Detective Russo finished first in the promotional testing process. Human Services Director Barbara Butler has announced that the Westport Youth Commission is seeking nominations for the annual James S. Bacharach Service to the Community Award. “All qualified high school seniors from Westport are eligible for this award,” said Butler. “This honor, given to one or more high school seniors from Westport, recognizes their significant community service contributions in our town.” Citations have been given annually since 1989 as a tribute to the late James S. Westport News: Regs On Animals on Town Properties

#Westport--Westport Parks & Recreation Director Jennifer Fava today reminded residents of regulations related to animals on Town Property. Effective April 1, animals will not be permitted at Compo, Old Mill, and Burying Hill Beaches. Animals in or out of vehicles will not be allowed on any beach property which includes all grass, sand, and parking areas, except Soundview parking lot at Compo Beach, as well as the roads within the beach area. The regulation is in effect until October 1. Westport Fire Gets New Equipment

The Westport Fire Department thanks the organizers of the Fairfield Half Marathon for their generous donation towards the purchase of new firefighting equipment. The Westport Fire Department has recently started the phase in project of 1 ¾” fire attack hose and new nozzles for all fire apparatus. This larger hose replaces the older 1 ½’’ hose and nozzles currently in service. LT Jeff Gootman is in charge of the project. The new equipment will improve our water flow from attack lines and enhance firefighting ability. Firefighters have been conducting training in the use of the new equipment. With larger homes being built over the last ten years, increased water flow is required on the initial attack lines for firefighting and these new hose lines will enable us…

10:11pm--#Westport Connecticut--Firefighters were called to a commercial fire at 38 Post Road East which houses HSBC Bank and Starbucks. Witnesses said the flames were shooting from the left side of the roof. Firefighters quick response kept the fire from spreading. They are checking to see if the fire extended inside into any of the businesses.
