Westport News: Scaffold Collapse

3:34pm--Westport CT--    The Westport Fire Department responded to a scaffold collapse with two construction works injured at the Bedford Square construction site.  Two construction works were getting setup on the 2nd floor to cut steel as part of the ongoing renovations and construction at 52 Post Road East as part of the project when the scaffold they were using tipped over. One worker was on the scaffold and the other was hit by it; both suffered non-life threating leg injuries.  Westport EMS and Police also responded providing primary patient care while firefighters used ropes and rigging to set up a lowering system to remove the two construction workers from the 2nd floor of building. Westport News: Check Forgery

On Friday August 14th, 2015 David Reichard (age 26) turned herself into the Westport Police Department after learning that there was a warrant for his arrest. The arrest warrant for Reichard stems from a bad check complaint received from First County Bank back in May 2015. From the complaint received it is alleged that Reichard deposited a check for $3960.00 into his bank account which was forged. The investigation by the Westport Police Department Detective Bureau revealed that the victim, Monroe Muffler of Monroe Connecticut had reported its business account compromised months earlier and that the suspect had who is not known to them had forged the check and attempted to receive money from their account. Westport News: Contractor Shows Porn To Kids

On Friday August 14th, 2015 Westport Police Officers responded to a complaint at a local residence where it was reported that an employee for a contractor had allegedly shown a juvenile a pornographic video on his cell phone.  During the course of the investigation it was learned that the employee had entered a room where both children were playing and had shown the child the pornographic video. The children (ages 8 and 6) immediately reported the incident to their mother. Prior to our arrival the contractor who had been notified of the incident by the mother, had called all of his employees together and the suspect was identified. The Southwest Community Heath Center on Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport conducted a health care fair today after being rained out yesterday. Westport’s New Parks Director

Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe announced today that Jennifer A. Fava has been appointed   the Parks & Recreation Director for the Town of Westport. Ms. Fava will assume her duties effective September 1, 2015. She replaces former Parks & Recreation Director Stuart McCarthy who retired on June 1. Until recently, Ms. Fava served for three years as the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation in the Town of North Hempstead in New Hyde Park, N.Y. where she managed a work force of 385 full and part-time employees and oversaw an operating budget three times larger than Westport’s Parks & Recreation budget. Westport Firefighter To Fight California Wildfires

A Westport Firefighter left yesterday for Northern California to assist with the wildfires after Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency. Assistant Chief Michael Kronick is joining the 20-person fire crew from the Connecticut  Interstate Fire Crew that is part of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The D.E.E.P. maintains a roster of staff and personnel from local fire departments who are certified to fight wildfires, which in turn allows Connecticut to participate in a reciprocal aid program operated by the U.S. Forest Service.
