Westport Volunteer EMS Offers Free Hands-Only CPR Classes

Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service (WVEMS) announces it will be offering free Hands-Only CPR training sessions for the general public. Students will learn how to perform hands-only CPR (no mouth-to-mouth) for an adult who does not show signs of life, how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and how to assist an adult who is choking and cannot breathe. Hands-Only CPR takes only 30 minutes to learn; it is NOT a certification-level class.   Classes will take place on August 29 at 6:30PM and 7:00PM, and on September 20 at 9:00AM and 9:30AM, in the training classroom of the Westport Police/EMS Headquarters building, located at 50 Jesup Road. Suspect Arrested for Threats; Police Find Victim Asleep

(Bridgeport, CT  -- Aug. 19, 2013) – A city man was arrested for making threats over an unpaid debt. Officer Paul Cari responded to a home in the 1300 block of Kossuth Street Friday evening and encountered the suspect, identified as Martquice Dukes, 23, of Noble Avenue, leaning against a car and yelling and waving his hands. He stated loudly that he wanted his money and was not leaving until he got it. After acting aggressively toward the police officer as if he wanted to fight, he was placed in handcuffs as police investigated. CERT Mass Casualty Event Exercise

Stamford CT: About 80 volunteers from the Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) from Bridgeport, Fairfield, Westport, Wilton, New Canaan and Stamford gathered Saturday at the Roxbury Elementary School on West Hill Road, Stamford, where they participated in a 4 hour exercise, training to respond to Mass Casualty Events like hurricane Sandy and the recent train derailment in Fairfield. Training focused on Search and Rescue,Medical Triage and Treatment, Recovery of evidence,Radio Communications and Perimeter control. CERT groups are made up of community volunteers trained by local police and fire fighters to respond and assist during disasters or situations which may overwhelm local emergency resource capabilities. Overnight fire in Fairfield

4:45am--#Fairfield CT--The Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire at 175 School Street. Car 3 arrived on scene and observed smoke coming from the second floor of a single family residence. The family of four and their dog were all outside of the home when the fire department arrived. One occupant, a 19 year old male, had burns on his hands and face due to exposure. Members from Engine 2 and Ladder 2 quickly entered the building and extinguished the fire. Additional units supported on scene operations and medical care was provided to the victim by on scene fire personnel.
