A new study shows Americans lost a record $1.3 billion to romance scams in 2022, up 138% from $547 million in 2021. This marks the largest single-year hike over the past five years. Connecticut ranks No. 26 with 159 victims losing $7.1 million in 2022. Connecticut has the No. 8 highest average loss per victim at $44,851. The 10 states that lost the most money were highly populated led by California, Texas, Florida, and New York but it was smaller states that saw the biggest increases in money lost year-over-year led by Arkansas (398% increase), New Mexico (268%), and Maine (216%). Town of Stratford To Host Annual Veterans Breakfast 

  STRATFORD -- Mayor Laura R. Hoydick announced today that the Town of Stratford will host this year’s Veterans Breakfast on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. The annual event, which has provided breakfast for more than 1,000 veterans since 2012, is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with doors opening at 8:30 a.m. and will be held at Vazzano’s Four Seasons in Stratford. FALSE CLAIMS SETTLEMENT WITH HOSPITAL OWNER AND MEDICAL GROUP

Attorney General William Tong and United States Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery today announced that Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) and Yale New Haven Health Services Corp. (YNHH) have entered into a civil settlement agreement with the federal and state governments in which they will pay $560,718 to resolve allegations they overbilled the federal Medicare and Connecticut Medicaid programs. Northeast Medical Group is a physician and associated provider group affiliated with Yale-New Haven Health Services Corp., which owns several hospitals, including Bridgeport Hospital. Trumbull News: Hiker Discovers Body

#Trumbull CT--This afternoon, Trumbull Police are investigating the discovery of a body in a wooded area that borders the Pequonnock River Valley walking trail. A hiker was traveling through this densely wooded area a short distance from Church Hill Road when he came upon a partially decomposed body and some personal property nearby. The area is not easily accessible to the public walking trail and is far from any local residences. There were no obvious signs of foul play and police are classifying it as an untimely death, based on the preliminary information.
