A statement from Chief Mello: Our initial review has revealed the following: On November 14, 2022, Julie Minogue came to the police department to file a complaint against Ewen Dewitt for sending her over 200 text messages from November 12-14, 2022, violating the Protective Order that prohibited him from harassing her. Officer Knablin interviewed Julie, and he collected the evidence from her cell phone records that she later provided. On Friday November 18, 2022, Officer Knablin completed an arrest warrant application for Ewen Dewitt, charging him with Violation of a Protective Order. Bridgeport News: Overnight Shootings

On December 18, 2022, at approximately 2:35 am the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received reports of a shooting outside the La Sabrosura Restaurant located at 533/537 East Main Street. Upon arrival, police officers discovered a victim traveling away from the area in a private vehicle. That victim, a 29-year-old Bridgeport woman, was suffering from an injury to her leg. The woman was quickly transported to an area hospital where she is listed in stable condition (non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg). A second victim of the shooting arrived at an area hospital via private vehicle with an injury to his head. Bridgeport News: Person Shot

Police UPDATE: On December 17, 2022, at approximately 10:15 pm the Bridgeport Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation within the 400 block of Park Street (6 shots).  Patrol Officers responded to the area and located a 27-year-old Bridgeport man suffering from gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg.  Medical were called to the scene and the victim was quickly transported to an area hospital for treatment.  The victim is reported to be in serious condition but stable at this time.    The Detective Bureau has responded and taken over the investigation.  A crime scene was processed near the intersection of Park Street & Stillman Street and Detectives are working several leads. Milford News: Burglary Charges

On October 2, 2022, Milford Police responded to Dockside Brewery, 40 Bridgeport Ave, for an alarm. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the business had been burglarized. Investigation led to an arrest warrant for Vincent Laconte, 25, of 720 Light Street in Stratford. Laconte was taken into custody on December 12, 2022. Laconte was charged with: Burglary Third Degree Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree Laconte was released on a $15,000 bond and will appear in Milford Court on January 10, 2023

On Friday 12/16/2022, Robert A. Mayer, 80, former Chief Fiscal Officer for the Town of Fairfield, turned himself in on a warrant for additional charges which include Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 1st Degree by Defrauding the Public Community and Conspiracy to Commit Disposal of Solid Waste. The warrant was prepared by the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. These charges are as a result of the continued and ongoing Town of Fairfield fill pile investigation conducted by the Fairfield Police and the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.
