Fairfield Police Charges Man with Breaking Into Local Businesses

FAIRFIELD -- Chief Christopher Lyddy reports that the Fairfield Police Department arrested and charged a man with breaking into several commercial businesses in Fairfield in recent months. DANIEL OLER, AGE 48, OF BRIDGEPORT, was charged with five counts of 3rd Degree Burglary. OLER was held on $25,000 bond and was transported to Bridgeport Superior Court. Beginning on Jan. 26, the Fairfield Police Department started receiving reports about a rash of overnight commercial burglaries, in which forced entry was gained by spinning the locking mechanism to the front doors of the businesses. Similar burglaries had been occurring throughout Connecticut and law enforcement investigators believed that the same suspect was allegedly responsible. Westport, CT – First Selectman Jim Marpe provided the following message and update today: This weekend’s reopening plan for the Compo Beach and Soundview Parking Lots, as well as reopening of play at Longshore Golf Course with restrictions, was successful. In general, everyone was respectful, aware, and accommodating to the social distancing and having masks available when not able to maintain six-foot distances. I appreciate the efforts everyone made, including residents and Town staff, that helped insure a positive outcome. There remains, however, some who are choosing not to adhere to the CDC recommendations. Bridgeport News: 3 Year Old Found-Parents NOT Located

2020-05-19--#Bridgeport-- This morning a citizen on Hewitt Street called police to report he found a 3-year-old child.   Westport K-9 assisted in an attempted reverse track to locate the child's residence but was unsuccessful.  It wasn't clear if the child was wandering or if was dropped off.   The child was transported to Bridgeport Hospital and Department of Children and Families were notified.   At this time police still have not been notified of any missing children.  The child is described as Hipsanic male, long hair wearing a red Champion sweatshirt, red pants with black/green sneakers.   This news report is made possible by:

AG Defends Immigrant Detainees

#Hartford, CT – Attorney General William Tong led a coalition of 18 attorneys general filing a friend of the court brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit defending due process rights of immigrant detainees who have been unlawfully denied bond. The brief supports the petitioners in Pereira Brito v. Barr, who sued the Board of Immigration Appeals to block unlawful bond hearing procedures that have resulted in the indefinite detention of many immigrants with no meaningful legal recourse. A Massachusetts District Court in 2019 found the BIA policy violated the Constitution and the Administrative Procedure Act and entered a permanent injunction.
