(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong today announced a $45 million multistate settlement with Block, Inc., the company behind the popular peer-to-peer payments app Cash App. The settlement resolves findings that Block misled consumers about the safety of Cash App, failed to protect users from fraud on the platform, and didn't provide the fraud protection and resolution services that it promised and that are required by law – to help people when things went wrong. The Ansonia Police Department is actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon, July 7, 2026. At approximately 5:00 p.m. on July 7, Ansonia Police received a notification from a local hospital regarding an adult male who had self-admitted with a gunshot wound. Initial reports indicated the injury was a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound. Through immediate follow-up investigations, detectives determined that the incident took place in the area of Liberty Street. Responding officers and detectives successfully located and secured the scene on Liberty Street. Investigators subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence to gather physical evidence and further the investigation. This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Connecticut Attorney General William Tong announced that expanded protections under the Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA) took effect July 1, adding new safeguards aimed at protecting children online while strengthening privacy rights for all Connecticut residents. Under the updated law, companies are now prohibited from selling or using minors' personal data for targeted advertising. Businesses are also barred from using addictive design features intended to keep children on their platforms longer, collecting a minor's precise location unless it is necessary to provide the service, or profiling minors without consent. Bridgeport News: Firefighters Battle Sheridan Street Fire

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Sheridan Street in Bridgeport around 9:00pm on July 4th for a building fire. Deputy Chief Cody said companies arrived to find heavy fire in the rear of the building. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, knocked down the main body of the fire, and remained on scene for extensive overhaul, chasing hot spots throughout the building to make sure the fire was completely out. Cody said the crews had already been busy and were working in warm conditions, but were being rehabbed on scene.
