On March 19, 2025, at approximately 9:42 a.m., the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received multiple calls reporting a pedestrian had been struck at the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Ellsworth Street. American Medical Response, Bridgeport Fire Engine 7, and Bridgeport Police Officers were dispatched to the location. Officers were advised that the responsible SUV had fled the scene.
Upon arrival, Bridgeport Police Officers observed a female pedestrian lying face down in the eastbound lane at the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Ellsworth Street. American Medical Response and Bridgeport Fire Engine 7 personnel arrived and rendered aid. The female was subsequently transported by American Medical Response to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. The pedestrian was identified as a 76-year-old Bridgeport resident.
The investigation was assigned to Officer N. Fowler, who conducted an investigation into the collision and subsequent evading. As a result of the investigation, Officer Fowler obtained an arrest warrant for 69-year-old Paul Kwaku Amuzu of Bridgeport. On August 28, 2026, Paul Kwaku Amuzu was arrested and charged with Evading Responsibility with Serious Physical Injury. His bond was set at $25,000.
