ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG STATEMENT REGARDING PURA DRAFT DECISION FURTHER DECREASING RATES FOR CONNECTICUT NATURAL GAS AND SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT GAS

(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong released a statement regarding draft decisions issued this week by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) further decreasing authorized revenue for both Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) and Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG). The companies, which are owned by Avangrid, had collectively sought more than $60 million in rate increases in 2023. After reviewing the requests, PURA instead approved revenue decreases in 2024, reducing CNG's revenue by $24 million, or approximately 5.4%, lowering customer bills by an estimated $7 to $8 per month. 18-Year-Old Killed in Catherine Street Shooting

Bridgeport police are investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Leon Richardson, who was found inside a Honda on Catherine Street Monday evening. Officers responded around 6:45 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and a man bleeding inside a vehicle. Richardson was found in the driver’s seat with a head wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Bridgeport Police Department is investigating the death of a Bridgeport man found shot inside of a car in The Hollow section of the city on Monday night. At approximately 6:45 p.m., dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and a man bleeding inside of a car on Catherine Street. Responding patrol officers found 18-year-old Leon Richardson in the driver's seat of a Honda with a head wound. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene. An individual stole a motorcycle off of someone and went off into the woods off of Science Road in Norwalk, where he was pursued by State Police, according to an unconfirmed State Police broadcast. One victim was being treated for his injuries.

Fire Displaces Three

Bridgeport firefighters quickly extinguished a third-floor bathroom fire at 146 George Street around 3:45 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Ellis said Bridgeport police officers were already evacuating residents when firefighters arrived and successfully got everyone out safely.The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and did not spread beyond the bathroom. No injuries were reported, but three adults were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Bridgeport Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
