(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont is applauding an announcement made today by the White House that the Biden-Harris administration has approved a new federal rule implementing a key provision of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022 that clarifies who must register as a federally licensed firearms dealer and requires anyone who sells firearms to conduct criminal and mental health background checks on potential buyers, regardless of how a sale is conducted. The requirement addresses a loophole in federal rules that up until now did not require background checks for firearms that are sold online and at gun shows. The Stratford Police Department Narcotics, Vice & Intelligence Unit, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration Bridgeport HIDTA conducted a narcotics sales investigation within the Town of Stratford into Edward C Johnson.  Based on this investigation, Search and Seizure Warrants were secured for the residence and Johnson’s vehicle.  At the time of the Search Warrant execution, Johnson engaged Investigators in a foot pursuit, attempting to discard packaged narcotics from his person. Johnson was taken into custody.  Upon warrant execution, Investigators seized over 2 pounds of Methamphetamine in both powder and tablet form, Oxycodone tablets, 6.5 pounds of Marijuana and $32,151.00 in illegal narcotics sales proceeds.  On 3/22/2024, Johnson plead guilty in United States Federal Court for the Distribution of Methamphetamine…

“As Mayor, I directed legal counsel for the City, to file an appeal last week with the Superior Court from the Siting Council granting the United Illuminating Company (UI) a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need for the Fairfield to Congress Railroad Transmission Line. The approved plan that the City is appealing would permit the installation of massive utility poles (Monopoles) replacing existing transmission lines within the South End of the city. Bridgeport city attorneys took this action on my direction to preserve and protect our residents and property owners from a poorly designed project. Westport, CT -  The Conservation Department reminds Westport residents and landscape crews that starting on May 15, 2024, the use of handheld and backpack gas-powered leaf blowers are prohibited in Town. Conservation Director Colin Kelly stated, “As of Wednesday, May 15, 2024, gas powered leaf blowers may not be used during Summer. According to the Leaf Blower Ordinance, passed by the RTM in 2023, “Summer” is defined as the days beginning on May 15th and ending on October 15th of each year.”  Kelly continued, “We are getting the word out now, in early spring, to remind everyone about the ordinance. Bridgeport News: BRIDGEPORT POLICE PATROL DIVISION MAKES STOLEN FIREARM ARREST

On Monday, April 8, 2024, around 6:00 pm, Bridgeport Police Officers Alston and Kamara responded promptly to a report from a victim who claimed he had been threatened with a firearm at the PT Barnum Apartments. The officers swiftly conducted an investigation, resulting in the recovery of a stolen black Springfield 9mm firearm from Hamden, loaded with 11 live rounds and ready for use. 23-year-old Kamali Cennamo was arrested and charged with Threatening 1st Degree, Theft of a Firearm, Carrying a pistol without a Permit, and Interfering with an officer. Cennamo's bond was set at $75,000. This arrest underscores the dedication of Bridgeport's Police Patrol Division to maintaining community safety.
