DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Malloy Receives Award For Welcoming Syrian Refugees

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy was named the 2016 recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award™ for courageously defending the U.S. resettlement of Syrian refugees amid security concerns following the November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris and personally welcoming a family of Syrian refugees to New Haven after they had been turned away by another state. The award for political courage was presented by Jack Schlossberg, President Kennedy’s grandson, at a ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston today. Video–Bridgeport’s 2nd Car Fire Destroy’s Garage–Damages 2 Homes

1:55am--#Bridgeport Connecticut--Tonight's second car fire was at the intersection of Cottage and Norman Street.  Witnesses told me the car was intentionally set.  The fire destroyed a garage between two multi-family homes as the residents slept.  Police on patrol called it in from their radios to the fire department  and got the residents out of the home prior to their arrival.  There were no reported injuries when I left the scene but I know it would have been a different story if it weren't for the police's efforts.  Firefighters quickly got the inferno under control and make sure the fire did not extend into the homes.

Tonight’s First Car Fire

12:33pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut--Tonight's first car fire was in the rear of 595 Shelton Avenue.  The fire extended to the boarded up multi-family home but firefighters quickly put it out before to got out of control.  There was another car fire that destroyed a garage and extended to the two multi-family homes.  I'll have a report on that shortly.
