During the pandemic, telehealth has made it safe and convenient for individuals to receive care from their doctors from the safety of their own homes. For the first time in Connecticut, insurance companies are treating in-person visits and virtual visits equally, and this provision applies to both mental and physical healthcare. HB 6001, "An Act Concerning Telehealth," would expand access to telehealth and continue to waive the customary restrictions on online medical health care services so that patients can continue to be attended to in the comfort of their own home for months to come. Westport Weekend Beach Traffic and Possible Overcrowding May Result in Closures
Westport, CT – Residents are reminded once again that weekend traffic and possible overcrowding at town beaches may result in early closure. In an abundance of caution and to ensure public health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the beach reaches a capacity where it is deemed impossible to maintain social distancing, it will be closed to additional beachgoers. Signage at key intersections on local roadways will inform drivers if the beach is closed, and traffic will be diverted from the area. Bridgeport Firefighters Remember 10 Years Later
Bridgeport Firefighters remembered the ultimate sacrifice that Lt. Steven Velasquez and FF Michel Baik made ten years ago on July 24 in a fire on Elmwood Avenue. Firefighters gather every year to remember them and to celebrate their lives. Fire Chief Thode said that of the 300 firefighters in the city, about 100 never met Mitch and Steve. Chief Thode said a lot of changes have been made since that day from equipment to procedures not just in Bridgeport but statewide.
Great American Outdoors Act Passes
Washington, DC – Yesterday, The House of Representatives passed the Great American Outdoors Act by a vote of 310-107. This act fully funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and establishes the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund. “Southwest Connecticut is a place of great natural beauty,” said Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04). “Our identity and economy are tied to the land, especially the Sound, and we have an obligation to conserve and improve the spaces around us.” The $900 million dollars dedicated to the LWCF support the $887 billion outdoor recreation industry, one of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy, and protects natural areas from development, an important element of climate stewardship.
