U.S. Department of Energy Awards the City of Bridgeport Public Schools an Energy Efficiency Grant, Led by University of Connecticut Efforts

Bridgeport, CT – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it has selected a proposal submitted by the University of Connecticut (UConn) and Bridgeport Connecticut Public Schools (BPS), to implement comprehensive energy efficiency and renewable projects at two Bridgeport public schools through the U.S. DOE’s Office of State and Community Energy Programs. The total award for two projects and support for the energy efficiency workforce development and training is $3.6 million, of which over $3 million is expected to be invested in technology and upgrades for the schools. The DOE funding will support an effort to design and implement equipment retrofits and upgrades for two Bridgeport K-12 schools, Geraldine Johnson Elementary and Luis Munoz Marin Elementary. Bridgeport News: Person Shot

Police Update: On July 12, 2023, at approximately 10:50 pm the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center (EOC) received reports of shots fired with a victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1200 block of Park Avenue. During that time, police received a ShotSpotter activation in that area indicating more than 20 rounds were fired. As Officers responded to the scene, EOC provided them with updated information. A male party injured by gunfire was now being transported from the scene to the hospital via private vehicle. A short time later, a 23-year-old Bridgeport man presented at an area hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound to the neck. He is listed in stable condition. Mayor Ganim and Chief Porter Announce Expected Goal for 100 New Officers by Next Year Bridgeport is currently short-staffed by over 200 officers Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim and Chief Porter announced a plan to hire 100 new officers for the Bridgeport Police Department to address the various public safety needs of our city. The plan includes: 23 officers currently in the academy scheduled to graduate by October of this year; A new police class of between 25-30 officers expected to commence in October; and, Two concurrent police classes of approximately 25 officers each to commence by early 2024. Bridgeport News: Homicide Arrest Made

#Bridgeport CT--- On July 10, 2023, Detectives from the Bridgeport Police Homicide Squad confirmed with law enforcement officers in Fulton County Georgia that they had in their custody 58-year-old Anthony Marion of Bridgeport CT.  Marion is wanted out of Bridgeport CT for the December 3, 2020, assault of Gregory Williams that resulted in his death on October 10, 2022.  Mr. Williams was 68 at the time of his death.      Anthony Marion will be held in Georgia as a fugitive from justice.  He is pending extradition back to Connecticut where he will be charged with CT GEN STAT 53a-54a Murder.  Bond is 1.5 million dollars. #Bridgeport CT-- Do you love designing your own creations? Then it’s time for you to join other kids who love those ever-popular plastic bricks at BPL’s LEGO Club! Your creations will be put on display for one week, and you get a prize for every fourth visit! Ages: 4-12. No registration is required. LEGO Club meets once a week on Thursdays from 5-6pm in the Children’s Room of the Main Library, 925 Broad Street.
