Bridgeport News: College is not a Legal Use in a Residence A Zone

Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport Attorney’s Office provided an opinion on the proposal by Fairfield University to utilize the site of the former headquarters of The Diocese of Bridgeport at 238 Jewett Avenue for a two-year college named Bellarmine College. Upon review, Mayor Ganim stated, “In light of the concerns raised by neighbors over this use and our City Attorney’s opinion which states that the subject property cannot be used for a college or university, I’m asking our Economic Development Office to work with The Diocese of Bridgeport on other possible locations within the City. I have suggested, for example, that they revisit the University of Bridgeport campus and look at the progress that has been made there over the past year. This would give Fairfield University the best opportunity to build out their vision for an Arrupe model in Bridgeport. While I really like the concept by Fairfield University and the positive impact it will make in the lives of Bridgeport youth, I do believe we should protect our neighborhoods from such intense use.”

Auto Theft Task Force Joint Operation with Detective Bureau

#Bridgeport CT– On April 7th, 2022, members of the Auto Theft Task Force working in conjunction with the DB executed three search and seizure warrants in the city. Kimani Williams, Aka “KO” was the person of interest in an active shooting case that occurred in Bridgeport on March 31st, 2022. Task Force Offices attempted to stop a Kia that Williams was the passenger in on Salem Avenue. During the motor vehicle stop the operator identified as Antonio Robinson refused to stop and revered into a Bridgeport Police car causing damage. Task Force Officers now boxed the vehicle in and ordered both occupants out of the car. Both Williams and Robinson refused to follow the Officers orders. While removing both males, a loaded firearm fell from the waistline of Williams to the ground. Once both males were detained, two other loaded firearms were recovered from the open glove compartment of the Kia. Both males were arrested, found to be convicted felons and charged accordingly. All three firearms were loaded with ammunition, one of the firearms had an obliterated serial number. Both males were held on $500,000 pending arraignment.

Mayor Ganim Presents Proposed Tax Increase

Bridgeport, CT – Last evening Mayor Ganim met with City Council members to announce his proposed FY2022-2023 budget. The FY2022-2023 budget is proposed at $605,136,209, a change of only 1.2 % from the previous year’s budget.

Mayor Ganim stated, “I am very pleased to submit the proposed FY2022-2023 budget to the City Council for action. This is a comprehensive balanced budget that delivers all government services that our citizens need for this next fiscal year and will have a positive tangible impact on our resident’s quality of life.”

This proposed budget funds all essential city services, while holding the line on taxes. Keeping the mill rate steady is important for our taxpayers: however, I am also aware that some of the most vulnerable in our community-particularly seniors-face significant financial challenges due to high inflation and high costs of living. To address this issue, my budget proposes targeted tax relief through expansion of the senior tax relief program. My administration has already started a dialogue with some Council members on what this tax relief might look like and will look to submit a proposed ordinance change to the City Council by the next Council meeting.

“I am determined to continue to fight for our residents and not raise Bridgeport taxes over the next year. This proposed budget provides not only stability, but also a tax break for our seniors. I look forward to working with City Council members to achieve a budget that benefits everyone in Bridgeport.”

Mayor Ganim is proud that this budget also proposes to increase the Board of Education budget with an additional $2 million.

Commitment to Education, City Infrastructure and Quality of Life

  • Next year’s budget plan includes a City local funding increase of $2 million to the BOE,
  • The Bridgeport Police and Fire Departments are hiring new recruits and sending qualified candidates through state training classes. This effort will continue in FY2023 as new classes are included within budgeted total positions for these departments.
  • The FY2023 Budget and the City’s Capital Plan includes funding for expanded street clean ups, parks improvements, and street paving.
  • The Budget also includes the upgrade of technology cybersecurity and communications systems to enhance online access and services for Bridgeport residents.

Your CBD Store

With my type 2 diabetes neuropathy and my 14 year old cat’s anxiety acting up, I knew it was time to pay a visit to Kevin at the Your CBD Store located at 3030 Fairfield Avenue in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport. It has calmed my 14 year old cat with his anxieties and calm him from the recent loss of his sister. I have found that it does help with the tingling and pain from neuropathy. Kevin said he can’t make those claims but just Google “CBD oil benefits” and discover what others and science have said.

If Kevin looks familiar that is because he runs the website On Scene Media in New Haven. If you are unsure of the CBD oil benefits he does have free samples you can try to see if it works for you. Again, he is located at 3030 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport or visit his Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/YourCBDStoreBlackRockCT

Bridgeport News: Suspect Caught In City’s First Burglary

2022-04-03@11:01pm–#Bridgeport CT– EMS was dispatched for an injured suspect in a burglary on Cowles Street. According to radio reports the police caught them in the act.
When I asked Scott Appleby, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police for information on robberies, carjacking’s, muggings, purse snatching etc. he said all calls of interest are posted on their Twitter account. As I look at this years post, this must be the city’s very first burglary! That is remarkable for a city down 110 police officers. It’s probably why BestPlaces.net rated Bridgeport as the No. 2 Best Place in the U.S. to Raise a Family! If you believe that, I have the Congress Street Bridge to sell you!
