#Bridgeport CT– As Mayor Ganim’s office continues to keep the gag order in place at the police department I’ve had to rely on sources to tell you what has been happening. Today’s report is NOT CONFIRMED, but a number of sources and their reports all come to the same conclusion:
According to police reports “On April 28, 2022, at approximately 12:20 pm, Bridgeport Police responded to 239 Newfield Avenue on the report of a disturbance inside the Garcia Mini Market” (Bridgeport Police press release). Multiple sources told me that the owner of the market asked 35 year old Michael John Bernardo III to leave the store. He refused and a physical fight allegedly ensued. The younger Bernardo quickly gained the upper hand, the owner feared for his life, he reached for his gun, firing once, killing Bernardo. Sources said the owner did not intend to kill him. No charges have been filed and none are expected as it appears to be an act of self-defense.
Again, none of the information in this report has been confirmed other than the second paragraph, which was from a press release.
2022-05-02@12:00pm–#Bridgeport CT– Firefighters were called to Fayerweather Terrace for a basement fire that appears to have worked its way to the attic. No one was home when the fire broke out. There were no reported injuries. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
2022-05-01@7:30pm–#Bridgeport CT– First responders have been very busy with auto accidents. Its becoming routine to have a crash at Mountain Grove Street and Fairfield Avenue. Witness on scene said the owner of the building in the background just redid the fence and guardrail the white car is sitting on.
2022-05-01@7:30pm–#Bridgeport CT– #cttraffic– According to radio reports a grill fire on the back deck extended to the home on Rainbow Road. Everyone made it out safely.
2022-04-30@7:41pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police investigate a call of a woman being assaulted with a pipe in the 200 block of Maplewood Avenue. The incident possibly occurred on Iranistan Ave. Anyone w/info is asked to call 203-576-TIPS.
Congratulations to Officer Heriberto Rodriguez and Sergeant Gilbert Valentin on your retirement from the Bridgeport Police. Thank you for your service.
This brings the police force down to 309 active out of a force of 425 officers. There are only 12 expected from the academy with no other replacements.
Bridgeport Police is about 120 officers short when officers were moving to other towns. Now retirements will continue to thin the herd with about 50 retirements by the end of summer. Only 12 officers will be graduating from the academy to replace the ranks this year. There is no recruitment going on nor an active list to hire from.Congratulations, thank you for your service and enjoy your well deserved retirement to those who retired last week:
Deputy Chief Anthony Armeno, Detective Juan Serrano, Lieutenant Jeffery Grice, Officer Ferando Oquendo, Officer James Duncan, Sergeant Matthew Cosgrove, Detective Edward Martocchio, Sergeant Andres Talavera and Officer Angel Vazquez
