Bridgeport News: Weapon Charges

On September 3rd, 2020 members of the Gang Unit (SUVCCCTF), Statewide Narcotics, FBI Safe Street and ATF working together executed a Search Warrant at 88 Butler Avenue Bridgeport, CT utilizing Police Emergency Services Unit. The investigation was conducted to help combat the rise in firearm violence taking place throughout the city of Bridgeport, CT. Upon execution of the search warrant members of Emergency Services Unit (ESU) encountered a male later identified as Jermaine Bethel DOB 2/25/1996 laying on the couch in possession of a fully-loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Bethel was taken into custody without incident.

 

Upon further investigation the firearm was confirmed stolen. Bethel was arrested on the below C.G.S.
*Illegal Sale/Transfer of firearm -29-33
*Illegal Alteration of Firearm -29-36
*Failure to properly store loaded firearm-29-37i
*Risk of injury to child -53-21(a)(1)
*Stealing firearm- 53a-212
*Violate condition of release 1st degree -53a-222
BOND SET AT – $10,000

 

Bridgeport Holiday Schedule

Bridgeport, CT – In observance of Labor Day, City of Bridgeport reminds residents of City services that will be delayed or closed during the holiday weekend.

Transfer Station

Closed Monday, September 7th. (Open on Saturday, September 5th, 7am – 3pm)

The Transfer Station is owned and operated by the City of Bridgeport to provide community access to environmentally responsible disposal and recycling services. The facility is open to the public year-round; Monday-Saturday, 7 am-3pm. Sanitation and Recycling pick-up routes

Labor Day pick-up will remain on schedule; Monday routes will not be affected by the holiday.

Brown bag collection (delayed)

Monday pickup is delayed until Tuesday.

*If pick-up is further delayed, do not remove bags from the curb—the public facilities crew will service your neighborhood as soon as possible.

Parks Holiday Schedule

All City of Bridgeport parks will be open for the holiday weekend through Labor Day, September 7th; 8 am-8 pm, with Splash Pads open 10 am-6 pm.   Park Permits will remain a requirement for entry to Seaside, Beardsley, and St. Mary’s. All park attendees must follow COVID-19 safety protocols; 50% capacity, individuals must social distance and wear face-covering when appropriate. Beardsley Park & Seaside Park bathrooms will be open from 8 am to 8 pm. All other neighborhood bathrooms will be open from 10 am to 6 pm. Lifeguards will be on duty from 10 am – 6 pm.

Bridgeport Port Jeff Ferry schedule

Bridgeport News: Shooting

2020-09-03@6:00pm–Many of you contacted us about a shooting on William Street on Thursday.  Police said the Bridgeport Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation for the area of Arctic and William St. Upon arrival police were able to recover several shell casings and subsequently reports of vehicles struck by gunfire. In addition, a vehicle was impounded by Police that was involved in a motor vehicle on-scene. No reports of injuries had occurred. This is still an active investigation.

Bridgeport Road Work

#Bridgeport CT–The Department of Public Facilities will begin milling and road paving throughout the City of Bridgeport on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 in the South End and will work their way through various neighborhoods, finishing around mid-October in the North End.

 

During this time, drivers are advised of the following:

 

  • Adhere to “No Parking” signs. All areas will be enforced 24 hours ahead of paving, cars will be towed if interruption to paving occurs.

 

  • Follow any “Detour” signs. You may need additional time to reach your destination so please plan accordingly.

 

  • Drive carefully!  Be mindful of raised structures, manhole covers, and rough edges or bumps at paving limits.

Bridgeport News: Boat Arson Trumped By PD

2020-08-31@2:31–#Bridgeport CT The Bridgeport Emergency Control Center received a call from a citizen reporting they witnessed a person with what looked like a gasoline can on a boat with a Trump Flag at the East End Yacht Club. The caller stated that he smelled smoke and noticed that a boat cooler was on fire on the same boat. The caller stated he put out the fire and called 911. While en route Bridgeport Police was provided the description of the responsible party. Police units were able to detain a person in the area matching the description and the caller positively identified the suspect. The person identified and arrested was Olajuwon Johnson of Bridgeport charged with Arson 3rd Degree, Bond set at $10,000.

 

Bridgeport News: Assaults

Police UPDATE: Police say the person at James and Harral was pistol-whipped with a toy gun.   The incident on Stratford Avenue was a domestic situation.

2020-09-01@7:33pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police are investigating a pistol-whipping incident at James Street and Harral Avenue.  It’s not known if it was during a street robbery or other circumstances.

 

7:44pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police are investigating an assault in the 1400 block of Stratford Avenue.  Again, circumstances are not known in Radio Free Bridgeport.
