Report of a fire near the 800 block of Sylvan Ave. in Bridgeport. According to unconfirmed radio reports this was a chimney fire that extended to the wall of the building. Firefighters quickly dispatched the fire, in weather that was so cold that by the time the runoff water from the hose got to the drain it was slush.

Today’s Vehicle fire is at 2120 East Main Street. It is in the back parking lot of the building and is not close to the building. Firefighters are on scene and putting it out at this time.
Lake Street Shooting Confirmed BPT First Homicide of the Year
The Bridgeport Police Department confirms that Steven Vega, the victim of a January 4, 2025, shooting at 242 Lake Street, succumbed to his injuries earlier this morning. Initially reported as critically injured, Vega sustained gunshot wounds to his torso and hand during an altercation that began inside the residence and continued to the front steps of the single-family home. Officers responding to the scene secured the area and initiated an investigation, which is now being led by the Detective Bureau’s Homicide Squad.
Investigators have determined that the incident was isolated and that Vega knew his attacker. Strong leads have been developed, and detectives are actively identifying witnesses and collecting additional evidence. Basement Fire
Bridgeport Firefighters were in the 600 block of Ellsworth Street for a basement fire that was out on their arrival. Firefighters ensured that the fire was completely out and checked to make sure it did not extend elsewhere. The fire marshal is on scene investigating the cause.

Bridgeport News: Person Shot
At approximately 4:34 PM, the Bridgeport Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received reports of an aggravated assault involving a firearm in the 200 block of Lake Street.
Responding emergency personnel found a victim suffering from life-threatening injuries, including gunshot wounds to the chest and hand. The victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
