Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport Department of Health and Social Services completed a 9-week “Take the Stairs” Steps Challenge, from November 13, 2017 to January 13, 2018, to encourage residents to incorporate more physical activity in their daily lives. One hundred and sixteen people registered to join the Challenge, together participants took 9,874,860 steps! The Steps Challenge participants selected step goals that ranged from a low activity level to highly active. The majority of participants reported that they met or exceeded their step goals each week. Participants were motivated with incentives in the form of gift cards to neighboring restaurants and tickets to local attractions. 4:46pm--#Bridgeport CT-- It is thought that homeless people allegedly trying to stay warm that started a fire in a boarded up, abandoned home at 181 Hanover Street. It took about a half hour for firefighters to extinguish the bulk of the fire. The fire marshal was called to investigate. There were no reported injuries.
3:09pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Firefighters called police when the silver car allegedly attempted to hit their firetruck to run from this accident at East Main and Boston Avenue. The driver remained in the car and remained on her cellphone.
#Bridgeport CT – Mayor Joe Ganim announced today that planning has begun in preparation of the selection process for a Police Chief. An outside consultant has been hired to assist with arranging meetings with various stakeholders in our community who will have input on what they are looking for in a Police Chief. These meetings will include city staff, police department staff, elected officials, citizens, citizen groups and community organizations. The Executive Search Consultant Meetings with Civil Services, HR, and city officials, are planned to begin on Tuesday, March 20th.
