Housatonic Community College To Honor Former Student

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (April 3, 2018)  The Housatonic Community College Foundation will honor Yusuff Abdu, a former graduate who made scientific history, at the 9th Annual HCC Foundation Gala from 6:00 to 11pm on April 21st in the stunning new Lafayette Atrium, located at the College. Originally from Nigeria, Abdu came to the U.S. in 2004, graduated from HCC two years later and went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut in 2008. He was accepted into New York University’s DNA Recombinant Technology Biology Master’s Program, where he became a PhD candidate in the Developmental Genetics program at NYU School of Medicine. There, he discovered a previously uncharacterized form of cell remodeling in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans primordial germ cells. His seminal work was published and reviewed…

Bridgeport News: Arrest In Fatal Hit And Run

#Bridgeport CT--The Bridgeport Police Traffic Division have made an arrest in the fatal hit and run accident that took the life of 81 year old Gasper Esteves of Bridgeport on June 25, 2017.  Mr. Esteves was standing outside of his Ford Ranger in front of his sister's house on Arlington St, Bridgeport when he was struck by a Volkswagen Passat.   The operator of the striking vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.  Mr. Esteves was transported to St Vincent's Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced deceased a few hours later. The Bridgeport Police Traffic Division Accident Investigation Team investigated the collision and determined that Pearak Pha, 27, of Bridgeport was the operator of the Vollkswagen.  An arrest warrant…

Bridgeport News: Harding Locked Down During Arrest–Knife Found

12:20pm--3/28/2018--#Bridgeport CT--Police were called to Harding High School by principal Dane Brown who told police that a teacher had reported concerns about an In-School-Suspension (ISS) Coordinator Carl Lemon, 63, who made threats.  According to the police report, Lemon told the teacher that he "disliked Caucasian race" and  "couldn't wait for the Panthers to give the ok and a revolution begins because he will execute every white man he gets his hands on".  The teacher said he was very concerned about Lemon's behavior.  The teacher also witnessed Lemon take the American flag and proceeded to stomp on it saying "this is what I think about it" the report continued.   The initial reporting officer called for backup and after speaking with the…

Bridgeport News: Ganim & Others Explore State Paying Off Hartford’s Debt

New Haven – Mayor Toni N. Harp and Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim Friday released the following joint statement in response to the state’s agreement to pay off some $550 million of Hartford’s accumulated debt: “While we evaluate the state’s new, half-billion-dollar bailout of Hartford, and recognize it as an acknowledgment of the responsibility the state has to assist it's structurally, and perpetually distressed cities, we question whether it represents an equitable practice.
