At the Main Library people can try their hand at basic electronics building and coding with an Arduino. This is a wonderful opportunity to use technology to develop a device that can work for you.

We invite twelve pairs of a teen and an adult to participate in this new program. Come and join Fairfield resident Billy Shaw and his son, Dylan. Billy and Dylan are a dynamic father and son duo who have been making together for the last several years. Billy is an IT professional living in Fairfield who is a founder of the Fairfield County Makers Guild (FCMG). . His first project was to take apart a VCR to see what made it tick. He quickly learned that being able to put it back together and understand the principles behind the circuitry and electronics was key to that… and so the journey began. Billy has been working and making ever since and is still learning today. Dylan, a freshman and Fairfield Ludlowe High School has been working with 3D printers, CNC milling machines, raspberry pi's and Arduino micro controllers at home and at the FCMG makerspace in Norwalk. What’s Cooking at the Fairfield Public Library? Spices!

#Fairfield, Connecticut– The Fairfield Public Library is kicking off the fall What’s Cooking Series with “Spicy Cooking Life of Shakespeare” on Saturday, October 22. The session will be in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road, at 2 pm.  The spice trade brought exotic flavors to England long before Shakespeare’s time, and spices such as cinnamon, caraway, cloves and more became established additions to Elizabethan cuisine. As the jewels of the gourmet, the tiniest amount of the right spice can make all the difference between a bland dish and a scrumptious one. Learn the differences between herbs and spices, how to store spices and shelf life, what spices work well together and with what type of dishes, spices by region; and so much more.

This is a hands-on class by presenter Colleen Bell. Participants will taste samples to determine the mystery spice, as well as taste testing various spices. Advanced registration is required due to the limited space. All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free of charge.
