Federal Funds Will Continue to Aid Connecticut’s Efforts to Ensure Housing for Veterans

#HARTFORD, CT – Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and the members of Connecticut’s Congressional delegation are applauding an announcement made today by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that local public housing agencies in Connecticut will receive $264,272 to help provide permanent homes to veterans experiencing homelessness.  The supportive housing assistance announced today is provided through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program which combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by VA.   Under the allocation, the West Haven Housing Authority will receive $171,840 for 20 vouchers, and the Meriden Housing Authority will receive $92,432 for nine vouchers.   “As…

Think Safety First – Fall Prevention for the elderly

#Stratford CT--Falls are a difficult and long-standing challenge for EMS providers. Due to a growing aging population, unintentional falls are a critical health issue for Stratford. Currently, more than 19% of residents are 65 and older. Preventing falls is an effective way to help seniors stay healthy, independent and reduce premature death. It also alleviates concern and hardships for caregivers. In 2015, SEMS responded to over 1100 falls. We have responded to approximately 800 so far for 2016. About 60% of those calls were for adults 65 years and older. While the majority of events report no harm or minor injury, falls can result in severe life-changing injury or even death. A re-arrest warrant has been issued for Martinez for Manslaughter 1st degree and Unlawful Restraint with a $750,000 bond with unlimited extradition. Martinez is 5’05”, 140 lbs. and has a vertical scar from his left scalp to his left jawline. Martinez has no known current vehicle and no vehicles are registered to him. Fairfield News: High-tension wire worker Electrocuted

UPDATE: UPDATE: I just spoke with Fairfield Police Deputy Chief Chris Lyddy and he said he also has preliminary information regarding this. A 16 year old boy was electrocuted and burned while at the cascade area of Lake Mohegan. The extent of his burns are not certain right now but he was able to walk to the first responders under his own power. Another 16 year old girl was also suffered minor burns not from electrocution but from help the boy. She may have panicked and left the scene and went back to the high school where police called EMS to treat her burns which were thought to be minor.
