Fairfield News: Mother Strangles Daughter Then Takes Own Life

10:23am--#Fairfield CT-- Police said a woman choked her eight year old daughter, thinking she had killed her she then went into the basement to take her own life.  Police received a medical call from the daughter concerned for her mother's safety.  After a brief search of the home at 271 Barlow Road police located the mother who had hung herself.    Responding officers found the daughter with non-life threatening injuries consistent with strangulation.  The girl was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.  One June 24, 2015 the woman's husband drove across the street to Fairfield University and hung himself in a tree.

Fairfield News: Smash And Grab

UPDATE: It appears to be more than a smash and grab.  Fairfield Police says it appears that the lock cylinder was removed.  The cash register and cigarettes stolen at time of call.  There were two suspects.  Both wearing  hooded sweatshirts,   1 with red mask / 1 with white mask.  A crowbar used for entry.  Bridgeport Police recovered cash register at Capitol & Laurel Avenue which was connfirmed to be the one taken from this burglary.     12:35am--#Fairfield CT-- There was a smash and grab robbery at the  Citgo at 2515 Black Rock Turnpike.  Taken was Newport cigarettes and other items.  The suspect fled in a pick up truck towards the Merritt Parkway.   This news report is made possible by:

Fairfield News; Police Manhunt After Assault

10:09pm--#Fairfield CT-- There is a manhunt  for a man who assaulted his girlfriend, threw her out of her car and took off in it from the parking lot of Coromandel Cuisine of India in Southport at 17 Pease Avenue, Southport.  He returned the car and he fled on foot  just before police arrived.  K-9 and police are searching the area.  #southport   This news report is made possible by: http://nimaloans.com

Fairfield News: Man Shoots Self In Da Butt

UPDATE to a story only DoingItLocal was on the scene for: UPDATE: Police say  Michael Southmayd, 56, may face charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm.  The gun was holstered and police said he had no alcohol to drink. 8:33pm--#Fairfield CT-- A man accidentally shot himself in the buttocks while dining at Tazza Osteria and Bar at 116 Post Road.  Police said the man reached for his wallet when weapon that was in waistband at his back accidentally fired off a round from the firearm.    The man was registered to carry but now warrants are pending for the unlawful discharge of a firearm.  The 65 year old man was not seriously injured and was walking around in the parking lot…

March 14, 2017 - On an early Tuesday morning at 1:16 AM the Fairfield Fire Department responded to a nine vehicle accident on Interstate 95 in the area of Exit 19 Northbound involving three tractor trailers.  Engine 4, under the command of LT James Shiller and Rescue 1 arrived on scene to find a vehicle with its driver trapped under the box trailer. Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir upon arrival at the scene, assumed Incident Command and special called Engines 1, 2 and Ladder 2 for additional equipment and manpower providing a total of seventeen firefighters for this labor intensive extrication operation.
