(Bridgeport, CT  — Sept. 23, 2013) – A city man was shot by a neighbor Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Joseph Vernon, 31, was found by police at 54 Clarence St. suffering from a gunshot wound to the left cheek.

He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital and later transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the suspect is a neighbor of the victim. Detectives learned that the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several shots inside the home. Vernon was struck at least once.

The suspect then fled on foot.

Police went to the suspect’s residence on Clarence Street and spoke with the suspect’s girlfriend. Officers checked the location but the suspect wasn’t there.

Police, however, found narcotics inside the home and charged the woman, Virginia Maldonado, 20, with possession of narcotics and risk of injury to a minor.
