(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Connecticut Employees Union Independent (CEUI) requiring the State of Connecticut to extend uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) employees, providing critical protections to the workers who maintain Connecticut’s roads and highways. The agreement provides up to $1 million in coverage per person for CTDOT employees injured by uninsured or underinsured drivers while performing their job duties, including when these workers are outside of their assigned vehicles in active work zones. Firefighters recived a call of a scooter on fire at the 700 block of Kossuth Street in Bridgeport. On arrival they saw that the scooter fire extended to the house and quickly put out the fire. There are no reported injuries at this time.

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont announced today that his administration is releasing $15.2 million in state funding to support assessment and remediation activities at 12 blighted properties across Connecticut, helping cover the costs of cleaning up these unused, polluted parcels so they can be redeveloped and returned to productive use, including for the creation of new housing and other economic development and job growth opportunities. The grants are being distributed through the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s (DECD) Brownfield Remediation and Development Program. The Stratford Police Department is warning residents about a bank impersonation scam that has recently targeted local residents and caused substantial financial losses. Scammers contact victims while posing as representatives from their bank. They often use spoofed phone numbers that appear to be legitimate bank numbers and may have personal information, account details or knowledge of recent transactions, making the call seem legitimate. The scammer creates a sense of urgency by claiming your account has been compromised, involved in fraud or linked to criminal activity. They then instruct victims to withdraw money from their accounts and send it through wire transfers, cash apps, cryptocurrency, gift cards or other methods. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. The day has since become a time to reflect on the end of slavery in the United States while also celebrating Black history, achievement, family, and community pride. Bridgeport Firefighters were called to Fire Engine Pizza on Fairfield Avenue for a structure fire. Assistant Chief Cronin told us they discovered a fire in the flue/duct work that extended to the roof, which they quickly extinguished. Town Clarifies Summer School Zone Speed Limits

Reduced 20 MPH Speed Limit Will Not Be Enforced Throughout the Summer The Town of Fairfield reminds drivers that its Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Device (ATESD) program in designated school zones remains operational throughout the summer months, but the 20-mph speed limit will not be enforced from June 17 to September 1 when school is not in session. Effective June 17, speed safety cameras will only enforce the regular posted speed limit, which is either 25 or 30 mph, depending on the location. Speed safety cameras will continue to monitor and enforce posted speed limits 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When school resumes on September 1, the 20-mph speed limit will once again be enforced during school…

Today's car fire is on William Street by the intersection of Huntington Road in Bridgeport. Firefighters quickly put out the fire that extended through the cabin. There are no reports of any injuries at this time.
