BRIDGEPORT MAN CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL ATTEMPT AT MURDER OF A TRUMBULL WOMAN
A Bridgeport man was apprehended by Trumbull Police on Tuesday afternoon and charged for Criminal Attempt at Murder during a domestic-related assault between a boyfriend and girlfriend at a Palomino Pass residence in Trumbull. The suspect, RONALD CHAMPLIN, age 53, of Holland Road, Bridgeport, was taken into custody at the scene by responding officers.
Police had responded to the residence after receiving a 911 call from the victim screaming that she needed help, and dispatchers could hear a physical altercation taking place in the background. Once officers arrived on scene and entered the home, they located a woman who was seriously injured, as well as the suspect who remained at the residence.
The investigation indicated that the suspect, CHAMPLIN, had continually threatened and physically abused the victim for approximately two days. The abuse sustained by the victim caused serious injuries to her face, body, and extremities.
Trumbull EMS responded to assist and transported the victim to Bridgeport Hospital for various injuries. The suspect, CHAMPLIN, was transported to Saint Vincent’s Hospital for a laceration to his hand.
CHAMPLIN was charged with Criminal Attempt at Murder, and other domestic violence related charges and is being held on a two-million-dollar ($2,000,000) bond pending an arraignment today in Bridgeport Superior Court.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack by interviewing other family members and witnesses, as well as collecting and processing evidence form the scene.
