Water Infrastructure Work to Begin in Bridgeport

Water main replacement project to begin February 14 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – February 6, 2024 – Aquarion Water Company is performing essential work on water infrastructure in Bridgeport to ensure continued system reliability and the highest quality water. Water main replacement projects will begin on February 14 on Kossuth Street, Maple Street, and Jane Street. The projects are expected to be completed by May 2024. Final paving will then be scheduled in coordination with the Town of Bridgeport and the State of Connecticut. Stratford-based Burns Construction Company will be the contractor for the water main replacement project. Bridgeport News: Child Dies In Crash

On 02/06/24 at approximately 6:05am the Bridgeport Emergency Operation Center received several calls for a single motor vehicle crash involving an injured child. The callers reported a vehicle crashing into a utility pole and getting trapped by a tree off the side of the road. The Bridgeport Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to the scene along with Bridgeport Police Officers to render aid.  A preliminary investigation confirmed a silver 2005 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Reservoir Avenue near Saunders Avenue. Fatal Accident on Route 8

In a tragic incident on Route 8 in Beacon Falls, Connecticut, two children from Bridgeport lost their lives, and several others sustained serious injuries in a collision that took place around 3:30 p.m. near Exit 23. The vehicles involved were a Honda Civic, carrying two adults and two children, and a Ford F600 with one adult. The children, identified as Riquelme Alves Brito, 3, and Laura Alves Brito, 6, tragically did not survive the accident. According to the Connecticut State Police report, both vehicles were in the left lane when the Ford rear-ended the Honda. Bridgeport News: Shot Spotter Nets Arrest

On Saturday, February 3rd, the city of Bridgeport Emergency Communication Center received information of a ShotSpotter Activation for six rounds fired in the area of 218 Orchard St. Shotspotter is a gunshot detection technology that uses sophisticated acoustic sensors to detect, locate, and alert law enforcement agencies about gunfire incidents in real-time. Several shell casings were located in the area of 218 Orchard St. Additional information was received reporting a possible argument between unknown parties followed by 5 shots fired and a vehicle leaving the area. The city of Bridgeport Fusion Center was able to locate vehicles leaving the area through the city-wide camera system. Bridgeport, CT – Today, Chief Porter detailed Bridgeport Police Department’s latest initiative of accepting lateral transfers for officers to increase the manpower within the department. Coalition Urges Appellate Court to Reverse Decision of Procurement Act Violation (Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong joined a coalition of 22 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief supporting the federal government’s actions to increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour for certain federal contractors.
