Bridgeport News: 3 Shot – 1 Critical

On August 22, 2023, at approximately 10:50 pm Bridgeport Police responded to multiple ShotSpotter activations and reports of numerous victims shot within the 1200 block of Park Avenue.  ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system. Once gunshots are fired in an area covered by this service, police receive a notification within one minute directing them to the location of the gunfire.  Upon arriving in the area, Officers quickly located (2) victims suffering from gunshot wounds.  One victim, identified as a 38-year-old Bridgeport woman, appeared to have been shot in the leg.  Police quickly rendered first aid to stop the bleeding.  She was transported to an area hospital via AMR ambulance where she is listed in stable condition.  Another victim, identified as a…

Lt Thomas Minar Sr Retires After 30 Years At Bridgeport Police

Lt Thomas Minar Sr retired from the BPD effective 8/15/2023 after 30 years of service. While the majority of his career was in patrol he did serve in the Traffic Division where he became a certified accident reconstruction specialist. He also served in dispatch as a supervisor prior to it becoming staffed fully by civilians. As a sergeant, Tom, was awarded a reward for bravery for an incident in Greene Homes where a suspect attempted to shoot both Sgt Minar and his partner. Sgt Minar was able to disarm the suspect without incident. Lt Minar is looking forward to his second career as a rural letter carrier and spending time with his beloved dog, Sully and occasionally with his family!

Press Release – Bridgeport Police Chief’s Pension Cut In Half

A judge has upheld the decision to reduce former Bridgeport Police Chief Armando "A.J." Perez's pension by 50 percent due to his involvement in cheating on the 2018 police chief's exam and lying to the FBI about it. The judge emphasized that the facts were clear regarding Perez's intentional actions and their negative impact on the public trust and fair evaluation processes. Despite pleas from Perez's wife, a portion of the reduced pension will still be allocated to her. Perez's lawyer attempted to challenge the order, claiming misunderstandings, but the judge maintained the clarity of the original ruling. Bridgeport News: Assault

Bridgeport News: Assault-- At 9:43 PM on Thursday, August 17th, an individual called 911 to reportthat they had been attacked by a black man with a bald head and glasses. The victim stated that they had been stabbed with an unknown object. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening, and they were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police are currently conducting a search for the person responsible for the incident. As of now, no additional information is available.
