Fire in Bridgeport Affects 2 Businesses And Many Tenants

9:09pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Firefighters were called to the corner of Wade Street and Wood Avenue for a report of a fire. Firefighters discovered the fire was coming from Bombons Market at 260 Wade Street, not the apartments above as first thought. The firefighters were delayed in their attack as the had to cut open the steel roll up security doors. As soon as the made entry they were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. The fire filled the Peking Restaurant next door with smoke, along with the apartments upstairs. There were no reported injuries. The fire marshal was called in to investigate the cause of the fire. Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim attended the state bond commission meeting as they approved $14.6 million for key infrastructure and economic development projects for the City of Bridgeport. Funding for approved projects include $7 million for infrastructure improvements to the city-owned Sikorsky airport, $3.7 million for the reconstruction of the Congress Street Bridge, and $2.28 million to support Bridgeport’s coastal resiliency. “We are excited for the approved funding that will have a positive impact on Bridgeport’s infrastructure and economic development potential,” said Mayor Ganim. “I want to thank Governor Malloy and the bond commission for their approval in securing the financial aid for these projects. HARTFORD, CT – Governor Dannel P. Bridgeport News: Fire On Da Roof!

4:51pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Customers at Brewport and motorists traveling on I-95 called in a fire on the roof of 341 Railroad Avenue.  Firefighters arrived and immediately called a second alarm due to the potential of a fire in this abandoned building.  Deputy Fire Chief Lance Edwards said the building is abandoned but had workers in the building.  The chief said the workers had left and he was unable to speak to them regarding the blaze.  Firefighters were on scene ensuring there were no further hotspots past 6pm.
