#Bridgeport CT-- Demolition began on the Wakeman's Boys and Girl Club located at 555 Madison Avenue today. This was a long time in coming said Mayor Ganim. City Council Member Jeanette Herron said City council member Tom McCarthy began the push for a new club for over fourteen years and Jeanette has been pushing for over twelve years. A fire tore through the club in February of this year. Mayor Ganim credited state representative Steven Stafstrom with maintaining the money earmarked for this project from being cut by the state. Wakeman's Boys and Girls Club Board of Trustees Jack Collins said he expects the new club's ribbon cutting sometime in the end of 2019.
#Bridgeport CT-- In a story you saw first on DoingItLocal, a pursuit that began in Bridgeport and into Brookfield, state police apprehended two later in the day. State police said the entered the pursuit while in Newtown but they lost sight of the white Honda. Around 7:10, the pursuit began around 6:30 in Bridgeport. The vehicle was seen near exit 14 of Route 84 and engaged in pursuit to exit 17 around exit 14 when it entered Route 8 south of Waterbury. The Honda crashed on Charles Street off exit 30 and the occupants fled on foot. Waterbury Police and a State Police K9 located the suspect who ran to a neighboring home to evade the police. 6:41pm--#Bridgeport CT-- An alert police officer located a car wanted in a carjacking at Fairfield and Clinton Avenue. The car was located at Wordin and Railroad Avenue. Bridgeport, CT - Bridgeport Lead Hazard Control is requesting qualifications from state licensed lead abatement contractors with their EPA-RRP Firm certification for the Bridgeport Lead Hazard Control (BLHC). Bridgeport Health Department will identify and pre-qualify lead certified contractors and oversee the lead hazard control remediation of 150 housing units. Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the City of Bridgeport proposes to remediate 150 housing units of lead over a three-year period.
