On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Bridgeport Police Department arrested a 13-year-old suspect in connection with recent threats made against local schools. The individual was charged with Threatening in the First Degree. The arrest, made at 10:50 p.m., followed a swift and coordinated investigation involving the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau, and federal partners. Earlier that evening, the department had been made aware of the threats and immediately launched an aggressive investigation, assuring the public that the safety of students and staff was a top priority. As a result of the criminal investigation led by the Bridgeport Police Department’s Homicide Squad, Detective Tom Harper was able to secure an arrest warrant for 46-year-old Roshay Williams charging him for the September 11, 2024, murder of 37-year-old Akeem Shoucair-Grant. On Sept. 11, 2024, at approximately 5:45 pm, Akeem was shot multiple times in the 100 block of Spring Street. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away a short time later. Roshay Williams, of Bridgeport, CT, turned himself into Bridgeport Police Headquarters this morning and was served with the warrant charging him with Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. Police are on scene at the corner of Norman Street and Atwater Street, near Birdseye Street for an assault with a dangerous weapon. It does not appear anyone was transported, but there is nothing confirmed at this time according to unconfirmed radio reports.

On September 18, 2024, at approximately 10:09AM, the Emergency Operations Center received a call for a collision involving four vehicles. The collision occurred near the intersection of East Main Street and York Street. The caller reported, an operator of a black Toyota Camry struck several cars, and possibly had a seizure. Bridgeport Fire Engine 15, American Medical Response (AMR), Bridgeport Police Officers, and the Bridgeport Serious Crash Investigation Team responded to the location. After a preliminary investigation, it was determined a 43-year-old, Bridgeport resident was operating a 2009 black Toyota Camry and traveling north on East Main Street. The Bridgeport Police Department would like to ensure our community that the safety of our students and staff is a priority and that there will be a strong police presence at our schools. I immediately reached out and to the city and received this report: The Bridgeport Police Department is aware of and actively investigating the recent threats to our schools. Today's vehicle fire was hosted by Bridgeport at Wordin and Fairfield Avenue. A thick black column of smoke was visible for miles. Firefighters quickly knocked the fire down.
