Fairfield Health Department Hosts CDC National Diabetes Prevention Program

#FAIRFIELD, CT– It is estimated that about 86 million Americans have prediabetes and many don’t even know it. Individuals with prediabetes have blood glucose (sugar) levels higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. However, people with prediabetes are more likely to be diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.

The Fairfield Health Department is offering the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC’s) National DiabetesPrevention Program (NDPP).  This program is absolutely FREE for individuals who have prediabetes or at high-risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. The main goal of this program is to create lifestyle changes and improve your health to help reduce or delay Type 2 Diabetes. Participants meet in a group setting with trained Lifestyle Coaches and a Registered Dietitian to learn how to make modest lifestyle changes. This is a yearlong program meeting once a week for the first 18 weeks, every other week for 4 months and then once a week for 3 months. Program runs every Wednesday from 6:30-8pm starting January 10th at the Fairfield Regional Fire Training School located at 205 Richard White Way (formerly 205 One Rod Highway).

Fairfield Dentist Gives Equipment To Enhance Dental Care for Tisdale Students

#Bridgeport CT– Last week Dr. Dennis Ragoza along with State Senator Tony Hwang and members from the University of Bridgeport’s (UB) Fones School of Dental Hygiene presented a panoramic x-ray machine valued over $23,000 to the Jettie S. Tisdale Middle School at 250 Hollister Avenue in Bridgeport.  Since 2007, (UB’s) Fones School student-clinicians led by faculty have provided free dental hygiene care at the Tisdale School for more than 350 students per year.  The Panoramic x-ray unit provides a full X-ray of the jaw as opposed to individual films of teeth.  Senator Hwang said, “What is positive in Bridgeport impacts all of us in the surrounding towns”.

 

Dr. Dennis Ragoza said “I was raised in Fairfield and always dreamed of returning home and starting a dental practice where I could treat my friends and neighbors,” Dr. Ragoza continued. “Growing up, I’ve been involved in many service opportunities and had the chance to work with incredible mentors who shared with me the power of giving back and serving the community. Fairfield News: House Hit By Gunfire

9:30pm–#Fairfield CT– Around 9:30pm police received calls for shots fired on Candlewood Road near Fieldcrest Drive.  Police investigated and found .22 shell casings in the street and bullets in the front of 54 Candlewood Road.  Police said the homeowner was unaware and did not hear the gunshots.  No one was reported injured in the shooting.

Fairfield News: Burr Mansion Turned Into A Winter Wonderland

#Fairfield CT– The historic Burr Mansion located at 739 Old Post Road was turned in to a winter wonderland but only until this Sunday.  Saturday you can and your child can enjoy an old-fashioned tea at the mansion.

Fairfield News: Missing Woman With Dementia Found

10: 39am–#Fairfield CT– A missing Hispanic woman was found at Black Rock Congregational Church at 3685 Black Rock Turnpike.  Police were called to the church to remove the woman who refused to leave the worship center according to radio reports.  She was transported to Bridgeport Hospital.
