The fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate. Governor Signs New Gun Laws

HARTFORD, CT – Joined by advocates and legislators at the State Capitol, Governor Ned Lamont this afternoon held a bill signing ceremony to commemorate the passage of two new laws that will enhance gun safety in Connecticut, including the banning of untraceable “ghost guns” and improving the storage of firearms in motor vehicles. Today also marks National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Ghost guns are firearms that do not have serial numbers, most commonly because they are sold in parts that can be assembled at home, and thus are not required by current law to have a serial number. They are not recorded as a gun sale, making them impossible to trace if the firearm is used in a crime. Public…

Governor Applauds Minority Teacher Recruitment and Retention Bill

HARTFORD, CT – Governor Ned Lamont is applauding the Connecticut House of Representatives for voting 150-0 to give final passage to legislation he proposed alongside a number of state legislators that aims to recruit more teachers of color into classrooms in public schools throughout Connecticut. The bill, which was approved in the State Senate on May 28 and will next be transmitted to the governor for his signature, addresses roadblocks that keep educators of color out of the classroom, such as reciprocity agreements with other states and developing strategic statewide hiring goals. Exit 9 on I-95 will be closed both north and southbound from 11 pm, Friday, May 31 until 5 am Monday, June 3 and again from June 7 to June 10. There will be detours to prevent the flow of traffic from becoming backed up Weekend 1 (May 31st - June 3rd) On Friday, May 31st, the CT Department of Transportation will replace the Route 1 Bridge (East Main Street) over the northbound lanes of I-95 in Stamford. At 6PM, ON-ramps at Exit 9 WILL BE CLOSED. At 9PM, OFF-ramps at Exit 9 WILL BE CLOSED. AT 11PM, the interstate WILL BE CLOSED. Motorists will be detoured onto temporary roadways. Governor Signs Minimum Wage Hike

HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont this morning signed legislation he championed alongside a number of state legislators that will increase the minimum hourly wage in Connecticut to $15.00 through a series of gradual increases over the next several years, with the first one taking place this October. After the scheduled increases take effect, the new law requires the minimum wage to grow according to federal economic indicators, so everyone can continue to share in Connecticut’s prosperity.
