Shelton Police, working with multiple agencies, arrested 20-year-old Jonathan Damato of Shelton on May 21, 2025, in connection with a series of stolen vehicle cases and local street takeovers. Investigators previously found stolen vehicles at and near his residence and identified Damato as an organizer of recent street takeover events. He was located hiding in a crawl space during the execution of a search warrant and taken into custody. Damato was charged with two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle and interfering with a search. His bond was set at $150,500, and he was scheduled to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court on May 22, 2025. [May 16, 2025] — St. Joseph’s Center, a skilled nursing facility has been placed under emergency evacuation of all 107 patients due to critical failures identified in the building’s fire life safety systems. During ongoing safety assessments, facility leadership—working in conjunction with fire safety experts and local authorities—identified serious deficiencies that present conditions classified as Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH). These failures compromise the building’s ability to ensure the protection of residents and staff in the event of a fire or related emergency. The evacuation is being carried out with full coordination with State and local agencies, and partnering healthcare facilities to ensure continuity of care and minimize disruption to residents. On 05/11/2025 at approximately 11:10 PM, Shelton Police, Shelton Fire Department, and Shelton EMS were dispatched to the area of River Rd. (Route 110) and Montgomery St. on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Responding firefighters and police encountered two vehicles involved in a collision. Emergency personnel transported two occupants of one vehicle to Bridgeport Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The sole occupant of the second vehicle was also transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. The Shelton Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the incident. The deceased has been identified as Mandie Lassy, age 37, of Terryville.

Shelton Man arrested for possession of stolen firearms On 05/06/2025 Shelton Police arrested 18-year-old Nicholas Cano of Shelton and charged him with multiple counts of theft of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and violation of a protective order. Cano, who was already in custody on other charges, was held on an additional $600,000.00 bond. The arrest stems from an incident that occurred on Coram Rd on 04/14/2025. Shelton Police responded to the residence to assist New Haven Police with locating a stolen unmarked police vehicle. The vehicle was stolen in the town of North Haven approximately 24 hours earlier.
