ATTORNEY GENERAL TONG CONCLUDES WHISTLEBLOWER INVESTIGATION INTO CONNECTICUT PORT AUTHORITY

(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong today released a letter to the Connecticut Auditors of Public Accounts summarizing and concluding a whistleblower investigation into the Connecticut Port Authority. In January 2020, the Auditors received several allegations from a whistleblower regarding potentially improper and unethical conduct by Port Authority employees, board members and a contractor, Seabury PFRA LLC (“Seabury”). The APA reviewed the whistleblower’s allegations and, in April 2020, reported its findings to the Office of the Attorney General. Upon receipt of those findings, The Office of the Attorney General opened an investigation pursuant to Sections 4-61dd(a) and (d) of the Connecticut General Statues. Shelton Police and State of CT agencies conduct inspections of Smoke Shops.

On 02/05/2024 the Shelton Detective Bureau along with the Department of Consumer Protection, Department of Revenue Services and the Department of Mental Heath and Addiction Services conducted inspections of six Shelton smoke shops. Prior to inspection, underage persons were sent into each shop to purchase tobacco products. In each instance the underage person was sold tobacco or a vape product and none were asked for identification. Two Assault Man in Burglary Incident

On February 6, 2024 at about 2:45 A.M. the Ansonia Police Department investigated an aggravated assault on Woodlawn Avenue. The victim, a 65 year old Ansonia resident, reported someone knocked on his door and when he opened the door two males forced their way into his residence. One male was armed with a handgun and asked him where his money was. The victim reported the male with the handgun then took a knife and cut him in the upper body. Both males then fled the residence. Shooting at Gas Station leads to arrest

On 01/28/2024 at approximately 10:15 PM, the Shelton Police were dispatched to 819 River Rd. Cumberland Farms Gas Station, on a report that shots were fired. Responding officers discovered a broken window and recovered a spent shell casing in the parking lot of the gas station. No one was reported to be injured in the incident. Shelton Detectives conducted a follow up investigation and identified Joshua Vazquez, Age 18, of Shelton as a suspect. Detectives obtained search warrants for Vazquez’s vehicle and residence. Detectives with the assistance of CT State Police Gangs and Narcotics Task force later located Vazquez in Ansonia, where a firearm and clothing matching the description worn in surveillance footage at the gas station was recovered. Milford News: Arrest in Sexual Assault Case

On October 31, 2023, officers received a complaint that a juvenile had been sexually assaulted in the past. The Milford Police Department Detective Bureau began an investigation and John MacSweeney was developed as a suspect. Detective Gallagher submitted a warrant for his arrest, and it was issued by Milford Superior Court.On January 15, 2023, MacSweeney came to the Milford Police Department and turned himself in for the arrest warrant.John MacSweeney, 39, of the 500 block of Washington Avenue, Waterbury, was charged withSexual Assault 4th Degree (2 Counts) and Risk of Injury to a Minor (2 Counts). He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court on February 13, 2024.

BRIDGEPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE UNIT WARRANT SWEEP – OPERATION “SUNRISE AT CONGRESS 2024”

On January 17, 2024, the Bridgeport Police Department’s (BPD) Domestic Violence Unit conducted a warrant sweep designated as operation “Sunrise at Congress 2024”.  Several state and local law enforcement agencies participated in this operation to include the Westport Police Department, Monroe Police Department, Trumbull Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, Connecticut State Police (CSP) Violent Crime Task Force-BPT, CSP Gang Unit, BPD Tactical Narcotics Team, and the BPD Patrol Division.  These units addressed multiple outstanding arrest warrants in Bridgeport, Connecticut with a focus on Domestic Violence. Westport News: House Fire

On January 16, 2024, at 1:37 PM, the Westport Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 65 Compo Rd South. The incident occurred in the afternoon at approximately 1:30 PM, with first arriving units encountering moderate to heavy fire conditions on the second floor of a residential building comprising two living units. Firefighters deployed two hose lines, conducted victim searches, and successfully evacuated all human occupants. Unfortunately, one family pet was rescued, while another was found deceased in the building. The Westport Fire Marshal's Office initiated an investigation into the fire.
