Jose Morales Sentenced to 65 Years as Search for Vanessa Morales Continues

This morning Judge Murphy sentenced Jose Morales to 65 years in jail, 60 years for his conviction in the homicide of Christine Holloway and 5 years for tampering with evidence in the case. Chief Williams and the entire Ansonia Police Department offer our condolences to the family and friends of Christine and hope that this brings them some closure in the senseless death of Christine. We would also like to recognize the careful and conscientious deliberation of the jury in reaching their verdict, along with the hard work of Senior Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Howie Stein, Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Marc Durso, Inspector Hyatt, Inspector Winkler and the entire staff of the Ansonia/Milford State’s Attorney Office.

The Ansonia Police Department continues to investigate the disappearance of Vanessa Morales. The homicide of Christine Holloway was only one aspect of the investigation and with that resolved our next goal is to determine what happened to Vanessa. The Detective Bureau continually reviews the case and will now begin to review the court transcripts for any new information. The two photos with this release are pictures of Vanessa from 2019 and an aged progressed photo to 2025. New Haven Man Arrested for Two Domestic Violence Incidents in Ansonia

2025-06-24@Ansonia CT – Darryl Giles, 35, of New Haven was arrested on June 24, 2025, on two warrants tied to domestic violence incidents involving the same victim. In the first incident on June 16, Giles allegedly forced his way into the victim’s home in violation of a protective order. In the second, on June 24, he is accused of again violating the order, entering the home and assaulting the victim, causing serious head and facial injuries. He faces multiple charges including assault, burglary, and two counts of violating a protective order. Giles was held on a total of $575,000 bond and arraigned at Derby Superior Court on June 25, 2025.

Third Arrest Made in Ansonia Street Takeover Case

2025-06-30@Ansonia CT – Zackary Bellefeulle, 25, of Enfield turned himself in on June 30, 2025, after a warrant was issued for his role in the April 26 street takeover in Ansonia. Bellefeulle is the third person arrested in connection to the chaotic incident, with more arrests expected as the investigation continues. He faces multiple charges including riot in the first degree, conspiracy to riot, reckless endangerment, and risk of injury. Bellefeulle was held on a $50,000 bond and arraigned in Derby Superior Court on June 25, 2025.

Bridgeport Man Arrested in 2023 Ansonia Shots Fired Case

2025-06-29@Ansonia CT – Xavier Glover, 23, of Bridgeport was arrested on June 29, 2025, in connection to a June 2023 shots fired investigation in Ansonia. Officers had responded to reports of gunfire near Orchard Street and South Street on June 14, 2023. Following an investigation, Glover was identified as a suspect and an arrest warrant was issued. He was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. Glover was held on a $100,000 bond and arraigned in Derby Superior Court on June 25, 2025.

AirPods Lead Police to Ansonia Theft, Drugs, and Multiple Arrests

On June 14, 2025 two residents of Kentucky reported to the Ansonia Police Department that while they were camping in Rhode Island their car was broken into and property was stolen. The couple reported that airpods were among the stolen items and they were able to track them using their phone to High Street in Ansonia. During the course of the investigation a suspect along with an address on High Street were developed and a search warrant was obtained. During the execution of the search warrant 8 of the 11 items reported stolen were recovered. The suspect, Carlos Sobel, age 46, of Ansonia was located hiding behind the house and taken into custody. Sobel was charged with Larceny Third Degree and held on $10,000.00 bond.

During the search warrant, officers located 30 folds of suspected heroin inside the home which led to Possession of Narcotics charges for Sobel and Alicia Martoni, age 45, of Ansonia. Both were held on $5,000.00 bond.

Additionally, Carlos Sobel was wanted on three Violation of Probation warrants each with a $10,000.00. Both Martoni and Sobel were held on their bonds to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court on June 16, 2025.

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
