Westport News: Crash Into The River

2022-12-10@12:58am--#Westrport CT--The Westport Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle crash with a car in the Saugatuck River and a person trapped. The fire department responded with 3 engines, a rescue truck, and the Shift Commander. Units arrived and found a single-car motor vehicle accident with the car coming to rest on its side in a creek adjacent to the Saugatuck River. The car was in approximately two feet of water. Firefighters wearing cold water rescue suits operated in the water and removed the lone occupant from the vehicle. Westport EMS responded to the scene and transported the patient to an area hospital with unknown injuries. Westport PD responded and provided traffic control.

Westport News: Fire On The Outside Of A House

#Westport CT--At 3:02 today (11/22/2022), the Westport Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at Rocky Ridge Road. Upon arrival, a fire was observed on the front right corner of the house. Firefighters deployed a 1 ¾ inch hand line and quickly extinguished the fire. Westport Truck Company 1 found and extinguished the fire that extended to the interior of the second-floor bedroom. The power to the house was disconnected by the power company and the homeowner was working with an electrician to restore power. The homeowner was not displaced at the time of this report.

Westport News: Multiple Charges

#Westport CT-- On October 12, 2022, at approximately 8:25 p.m., an officer on routine patrol pulled a car over for a motor vehicle violation in the area of 379 Post Road East. The driver was identified as Juan Velasco. Mr. Velasco reportedly admitted that his license was currently suspended and that the car he was driving was not registered. Additionally, the officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view. A search of the car yielded additional paraphernalia as well as a pair of homemade nunchucks.
