Westport News: Disorderly Conduct and Reckless Use of the Highway

On 11/18/16 at approximately 3:30pm, Westport Officers observed a male, whom they immediately recognized to be Leroy Williams, panhandling on the I95 southbound exit 17 off ramp. Officers asked Williams to leave the area. Williams appeared to be complying with the request as he began to gather his belongings and walk from the exit ramp into the intersection of Saugatuck Avenue. Williams then stopped in the middle of the intersection and began screaming that the officers were racist. Williams was asked to get out of the roadway and he refused. The intersection was congested with traffic, and while Williams stood in the roadway, southbound traffic was unable to pass and northbound traffic had to swerve to avoid hitting him. Again,…

If It Sounds Too Good To Be True…

#Westport Connecticut--In July of 2016, the victim of this incident reported she was scammed by the suspect, Bobby Megel, regarding repair work done to her vehicle. Megel solicited the victim to repair dents in her vehicle while she was on the Sherwood Island Connector. Megel convinced the victim to pay him $415.00 for the repair work. Megel made the vehicle appear fixed, but as time went on, he actually did more damage to it. The victim knew the suspects name because she originally wrote him a check addressed to him, but Megel convinced her to pay cash. The victim still had the check in her possession. Westport News: Fire At School

This morning at 9:17 AM the Westport Fire Department responded to 17 Morningside Drive South, Greens Farms Elementary School for the reported fire on the outside of the building. First arriving fire department units found a fire on the exterior of the building in the area of the natural gas service and requested the additional units to assist. Although school was not in session the school was open as a polling station for today’s presidential election and the building was evacuated by firefighters with the assistance of Westport Police Department. The fire was quickly extinguished with damage being limited to a plastic fence and the surroundinglandscape and the building was quickly reoccupied so that voting could continue. Westport News: Traffic Stop Nets Drugs and Handgun

On 10/24/2016 at approximately 10:00pm, Officer David Scinto was on routine patrol on Post Road East in the area of Maple Avenue. Officer Scinto observed a white Nissan sedan traveling eastbound on the Post Road. The vehicle did not have a front license plate and the rear license plate light was not functioning. The vehicle was stopped and the operator was identified as Donald Flamer. Officer Scinto deployed Police Service Dog “Atlas” to the exterior of the vehicle. Atlas is a certified narcotics detection K9 on both state and national levels. Atlas indicated to Officer Scinto the presence of a narcotic odor, so he was deployed to the interior of the vehicle. Westport Halloween Parade

The Westport Parks and Recreation Department, the Downtown Merchants Association and Westport P.A.L. have announced that the Children’s Halloween Parade will take place on Thursday, October 27, 2016.  This event is for all children, especially those 8 and under. Westport News: Identity Theft/Forgery Arrest

On October 12, 2016, a Westport PD Detective was in the area of Post Rd E and Bulkley Ave investigating an unrelated incident when he noticed a silver vehicle bearing out of state plates. The detective watched the vehicle and its occupants from a distance and observed the passengers exit the vehicle and walk one direction while the vehicle began to drive away in another direction. This heightened the suspicion and other units responded to the area. All three occupants were eventually stopped and an investigation was initiated. All three parties had different stories as to their purpose in Westport that we could not corroborate. Westport News: Police Warn Of Break Ins

(Westport, CT) The Westport Police Department is advising residents of recent burglaries in the Greens Farms and Easton Road sections of town. While these burglaries remain under investigation, we have received additional reports from residents in these areas that suspicious people have knocked on their doors. When the resident answers the door, the individuals come up with a fabricated story about an internet posting or a broken down vehicle. These encounters end with the suspicious men leaving the area and police being notified. Police believe this is a tactic for the suspect(s) to identify an unoccupied residence. Westport residents should also know that a burglary suspect has been identified and connected to recent burglaries that occurred in town.
