Bridgeport News: Harding High School Football Field Dedication

#Bridgeport CT-- Yesterday, the City of Bridgeport held a dedication of the new football field at Harding High School. The field was named after John L. Lewis. John Lewis touched the souls of many. Not just his family but many who said he helped keep them off the streets. Many alumni told me they wouldn't know where they would be without him. Mayor Joseph Ganim also declared the day John L. Lewis Day, presenting a proclamation to his widow Beverly Lewis. Beverly said her husband “was always quiet, to a point except when he was on the field...he didn't smile, but I can say now after a night like tonight I bet he's smiling now”!

Bridgeport News: Crash!

11:33am--#Bridgeport CT-- The Bridgeport Firefighters were called to help extricate a woman from her car at a crash on Park Avenue near Queen Street. The woman was taken to the hospital. The other vehicle, a jeep came to a rest at a bench at a bus stop on the Fairfield side. The roadway was closed for a period of time.

Bridgeport News: Woman Blows Hands Off Thinking She Was Lighting A Candle

Fire Marshal UPDATE: The Bridgeport fire Marshal’s office has concluded its initial investigation of this incident. This was a tragic accident. What appears to have happened is that when the family living at 1248 Lindley St. in Bridgeport lost power as a result of last night’s thunderstorms, and an attempt was made to go to Home Depot to purchase emergency lighting. Home Depot was closed. The family remembered that when they purchased their home two years ago, there were a couple of what they thought were candles left in the basement by the previous residents of the home or homeowners.
