Fairfield News: From the desk of First Selectman Michael Tetreau--I have been receiving many letters on this year’s budget proposal. I am attempting to read all the emails (close to 800 at last count). Since I will not be able to answer them all individually, I will do my best to respond to all concerns in a series of updates to the Fairfield budget update. Here is the first: Since our last budget a lot has changed. We managed over $3 million in cuts to municipal aid from the State including a midyear cut of $570,000. We were able to make adjustments in the budget to minimize the impact on services and our citizens. This year the Governor is proposing…

It is my pleasure to announce the 2017 Congressional Art Competition, an annual, nation-wide art contest sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives. I encourage all students in grades 9-12 who reside in or attend high school in Connecticut's Fourth Congressional District to participate. This is one of my favorite annual events, and meeting the student artists and their families is something I look forward to each spring. Entries are judged by a panel of local artists and representatives of arts organizations in Southwest Connecticut. The winning entry from our district is displayed for one year in the United States Capitol alongside artwork from every congressional district across the country. The winning artist will receive two roundtrip tickets to attend…
Officer Tyrone Boyd and Officer Shoubert Paulemon were named the February 2017 Norwalk Police Department Officers of the Month. Officers Boyd and Paulemon responded to a residence for a suicidal person call. Upon their arrival, they found a very distraught person holding a knife to their throat and threatening suicide. These officers calmly talked to the person and got her/him to put the knife down. The individual was transported to the hospital for evaluation. This person recently sent a letter to Chief Kulhawik thanking the officers for saving her/his life. These officers’ actions in diffusing a dangerous situation speak to their professionalism and character. Congratulations to you both. (Norwalk Police Press release)
