Stratford Library Sets 2025 Book Talks Winter/Spring Series Set Thru June 2025
The Stratford Library has announced that its “Books Over Coffee” program will continue for live, in-person meetings in the Lovell Room through June 2025. The monthly book discussion program, hosted by Stratford Library staffer Linda LiDestri, has been a popular staple at the library for over 40 years. It is free andopen to the public. Bridgeport News: Nelson Garcia, Suspect in Homicide of Steven Vega Taken into Custody
Bridgeport Police have confirmed the arrest of 47-year-old Nelson Garcia in connection with the January 4, 2025, murder of Steven Vega. Garcia was identified as the suspect in the fatal shooting at 242 Lake Street, and his apprehension marks a critical development in the case. While the suspect is now in custody, detectives remain actively engaged in gathering evidence and completing their investigation. The primary purpose of this project is to provide safety and operations improvements to the Devon Railroad Bridge, which carries one of the most popular rail lines in the U.S. Extending its service life will also lead to the construction of the future Devon Bridge Replacement Project.. No right-of-way impacts are anticipated. Construction is expected to start in summer 2025, based on design progress and approval of permit(s). Westport Firefighters Contain Vehicle Fire Extending to Garage
Westport Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire at a residence on Sturges Hwy. The initial dispatch was for two Engines. Dispatch upgraded the assignment to a structure fire response advising the fire was extending to the house. Two additional Engines, one Truck company, and the Shift Commander responded. E6 arrived and reported a vehicle fire with extension to the garage and declared a working fire. The crew from E6 stretched a hose line for extinguishment and began fire attack, minimizing fire spread. The crews from Truck 1 and Engine 2 checked the interior for fire extension, which was limited to the garage exterior. Remaining crews provided overhaul, utility control, and water supply. Today's Vehicle fire is at 2120 East Main Street. It is in the back parking lot of the building and is not close to the building. Firefighters are on scene and putting it out at this time.
