ANSONIA POLICE ARREST BRIDGEPORT MAN FOLLOWING VEHICLE BURGLARY REPORTS

On July 25, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers assigned to C Shift, under the supervision of Sgt. Nelson, responded to the Wesley Street area following reports of an individual entering parked motor vehicles and a garage. Upon arrival, Officer Ruiz observed a person matching the suspect’s description entering a nearby residence. Officers quickly responded, surrounded the residence, safely entered the residence, and located the suspect hiding inside a closet. Items believed to have been stolen from several of the vehicles were recovered nearby. Renell C. Campbell, of Bridgeport, was arrested and charged with four counts of Burglary in the Third Degree and two counts of Larceny in the Sixth Degree. He posted a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to be…

First responders are on scene to a reported shooting that occurred around the area of 500 Laurel Ave and 100 Grove Street in Bridgeport. There is at least one victim who was shot possibly in the hip according to initial unconfirmed radio reports. This is an actively developing story, we will pass along any updates as soon as we get them. UPDATE: The Bridgeport Police Department is actively investigating a shooting on the West Side of the city that happened around 4:00 p.m. today and left several persons injured. (Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong joined a coalition of 26 states in filing a lawsuit challenging actions by the Trump administration that would place new conditions on billions of dollars in federal counterterrorism and emergency preparedness funding. The lawsuit challenges decisions by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to impose conditions on federal funding appropriated by Congress for states to prepare for and respond to emergencies, natural disasters, and acts of terrorism. According to the lawsuit, the challenged conditions would require states to change the way they conduct elections, including transmitting lists of registered voters to DHS, and assist DHS in enforcing federal immigration law. First Pool of Mosquitoes in Stratford Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Stratford, Connecticut (July 29, 2026) - The Stratford Health Department announced that the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station reported mosquitos trapped at Beaver Dam Road and Beacon Point last week have tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). Two types of mammal biting species of mosquitoes were isolated, Conquillatridia perturbans at Beaver Dam and Culex restuans, at Beacon Point.   “It is usually around this time of year where the state reports that they have found pools of mosquitos testing positive for West Nile Virus in our area, and we expect to see more positive pools into late summer. (Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong released a statement regarding draft decisions issued this week by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) further decreasing authorized revenue for both Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) and Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG). The companies, which are owned by Avangrid, had collectively sought more than $60 million in rate increases in 2023. After reviewing the requests, PURA instead approved revenue decreases in 2024, reducing CNG's revenue by $24 million, or approximately 5.4%, lowering customer bills by an estimated $7 to $8 per month. PURA also reduced SCG's revenue by $11 million, or approximately 2.5%, lowering bills by about $3.50 to $4 per month. CNG had originally requested a $19.7 million increase, while SCG sought a…

Bridgeport police are investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Leon Richardson, who was found inside a Honda on Catherine Street Monday evening. Officers responded around 6:45 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and a man bleeding inside a vehicle. Richardson was found in the driver’s seat with a head wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
