GOVERNOR LAMONT PROPOSES FREE BUS PASSES FOR VETERANS, DISCOUNTED BUS SERVICE FOR K-12 STUDENTS

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that the state budget proposal he presented to the Connecticut General Assembly last week includes the funding necessary to provide U.S. military veterans with free passes to use Connecticut’s network of public bus services, including CTtransit, CTfastrak, and various transit districts throughout the state. Additionally, the proposal includes funding to provide K-12 students with a 50% discount on CTtransit buses. Governor Lamont said that this $3.5 million investment recognizes the important service of the nation’s veterans, while also acknowledging the mobility needs of young students. Established in 2024, this program was created to provide direct financial relief to Connecticut residents burdened by student loan debt. Eligible applicants can apply for reimbursement grants of up to $5,000 per year, with a maximum reimbursement of $20,000 over four years. (HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is extending the duration of the state’s currently activated Severe Cold Weather Protocol to remain in effect through at least noon on Sunday, February 15, 2026, as this long-duration stretch of brutally frigid temperatures in Connecticut continues. The protocol was initially activated on Friday, January 23, 2026, and was most recently set to expire today at noon. However, the updated forecast now indicates that below seasonal averages with single-digit wind chills will remain for several additional mornings and evenings through this coming weekend. Additionally, it includes funding to eliminate reduced-price lunch charges, making lunch free for students who currently qualify for reduced-price lunches. Will Castro's Designs and Unique are synonymous with the highest quality customizations and craftsmanship all over the world. Will Castro also has a TV show, Unique Rides on Speed Channel.
