Westport Firefighters responded to a serious motor vehicle accident at 485 Post Rd. East shortly after midnight. The car took down a telephone pole and burst into flames. The occupant was able to escape the vehicle and was uninjured.  Multiple Engine companies and the Command Car responded to the totally engulfed car fire and acted quickly to extinguish the fire and avoid the power lines and pole from becoming further involved. The Post Road was closed for hours while Fire  Department secured the scene, Police investigated and the Power Company restored power.
